I add a little more flour to the mix than it suggests in the book.

If they say 2 and a half cups then I add 3 cups and then set the machine to work.

Maybe add the water a bit at time until the dough has the right consistancy rather than throwing it in all at once.

  • I cover my hands in oil before removing the pizza dough from my SD253. I then stretch/pull the dough out, moving it round and round, and put it on a bit of baking parchment on the baking tray that I'm going to cook it on and use my hands to shape and flatten it to the size and shape I want.

I know its cheating a bit, but i use the cheese and onion bread mix from most supermarkets . Its approx 58p and when i do make this my family always remark on how nice the pizza is...........

I make pizza in my m all the time..try my quantities...

3 cups strong white flour ( actually I get away with 2 strong and 1 plain!)

    1 1/8 cups water

    1 tsp salt

    1/2 sachet fast yeast.

    2 tbs olive oil

and no, I don't use sugar, a recent mistake has made me realise it isn't needed. wow! breakthrough!

give it a go, and also, try leaving it for an hour longer after it finishes for more rising time if that doesn't work

I've never liked the pizza dough my breadmaker comes up with, and find it is just as easy and as quick to do it in food processor. Basically throw in all the ingredients and blitz for about a minute with the dough hook, then take out and leave in a bowl in the kitchen, covered with cling film until ready to use (but at least one hour). When you're ready to use it, all you do is break off the amount you need, knock it on the counter and roll it out to the correct size and thickness. It tastes great, much less bready than bm pizza dough, and is ready just as quickly and with minimal effort.
  • not a bread maker recipe but a really yummy recipe, very quick and simple too, didnt price it when we made it but i dont think it is very dear

I thought I'd try and make a pizza after reading about all your successes.

I had the ingredients at home and bought a sainsburys pizza base mix.

Anyway instructions said to knead the mix once I'd added the water. I mixed it up and tried to knead it on the worktop with some flour. Anyway, what a blooming mess I got it. It got stuck everywhere and I couldn't get it off my hands. It ended up in the bin and I resorted to chips in the oven :(

It's probably just as well because afterwards I checked the ingredients and the mix contained hydrogenated oils

So, I'd like to have another go. Can anyone recommend a healthy pizza base mix I could get or is it easy to make my own. I have some wholemeal flour at home.

    Thanks.

I bought the plain pizza bases - 2 for 98p from Sainsburys. Nothing on them at all, just the bread base. ;)
