NITS

I can heartily agree the the previous posts sentiment ::)
My daughter is 6 and has long fine hair. Almost immediately she started school, she got nits, we eradicated them with chemical weapons as instructed by the school. and she got them again. What changed our life was tea tree shampoo and conditioner (recommended by a checkout lady at asda, many thanks) and we have not looked back. However tea tree is not an insecticide but a repellant, you need to eradicate them first then stick to tea tree - we ran out at the beginning of one term last year and she got nits - we dont let that happen again.
So
1) Eradicate
2) Wash regularly with tea tree shampoo and conditioner
3) Be happyGas doc on the loose0 -
My eldest had nits once. We tried every remedy but nothing worked so we bought an electronic 'zapper' comb. It worked fantistically and she has never had them again. It's supposed to kill the eggs as well as the lice so we just use it every couple of weeks or so to get anything before it starts. It's a one-off pay-out with no messing around with any lotions, potions, shampoos or anything else that would make the average kid whinge. They enjoy listening to the buzzing noise it makes then the crack if it gets anything......nice :-/

when my daughter ( who has long hair to her bum) had nit, I treated her with;
15 drops eucalyptus oil
15 drops teatree oil
6oz sunflower oil/olive oil
leave on for 10 mins, repeat the next day, & then in a weeks time. Got rid of all the nits. Give it a go.
would it therefore be safe to use on grandson who suffers with excema ???0 -
After 5 hours of my wife picking through youngest every few days .. countless treatments & complaints to school ( for all teachers are aware of which particular family are responsible but they could do NOTHING )... I too asked local education dept.why headlice nurse could not be asked to visit the school and was told " DUE TO NEW EURO REGULATIONS children are no longer allowed to be examined.... It is most annoying as daughter gets herself most upset and misses schooling as I refuse to send her until she is totally clear !!0

i went out and bought one of those yesterday trix, hopefully that will keep them at bay.
You will be please to know that little miss divadee is all clear and i have stopped itching (just!!).
I still may start a petition to the government to bring back the nit nurse ;D0 -
This sounds interesting ::)

Quassia Chips work - probably as a deterrent. I used to buy mine from Culpeppers but a Google Search has thrown up a few other places.
Basically they are little lumps of wood, which you steep overnight or boil for 15 minutes. Strain through a FINE sieve (otherwise you will get a lot of little bits of wood in the comb which look just like nits!) and apply liberally to the hair. (If you've just boiled it you obviously let it cool down first.)
If you put it in a spray bottle you can also spray hair each morning before they leave for school: I always found that was the easiest way to apply it.
If you get it on your hands and accidentally lick your hands it tastes very bitter. But it doesn't smell too bad, certainly not as bad as the expensive shampoos.
I wouldn't have thought it worth keeping a child home from school with headlice as long as you have started treating them. Who benefits? Not your child, who already has them, and not the other children, who've also caught them from the same person your child got them from!
Some children seem more prone to catching them than others, even within families. Youngest always used to get them, eldest very rarely.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
