I have sent off my letter of complaint today, it will be interesting to see how long they take to reply and what they say.

There were 2 payments into my linked savings account today (24/12/08).
    £100 + £15. :T

So I'll just wait for the letter to confirm what the £15 is for, but I'm not complaining.

I got more joy from sending the one letter to the Customer Feedback Department, than from all the calls made to the Call Centre.

You may find the £15 payment is a Service Level Guarentee payment for making a mistake relating to opening an account - see here http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1193206375657,CFSweb/Page/Bank-CustomerServices
I've found the Co-op bank to be very helpful over the 13 years I've been with them, and their customer services have been excellent for me.

    Thanks for the info.

Despite their mistake, I have been very happy using my account and do intend to continue using it.

    Update from me:

OH wrote to the Customer Services department (as quoted by uzubairu) on 27th Dec (after at least 5 fobbing offs on the phone to customer services!) and received a letter from them on Saturday 4th Jan stating letter had been received and case was been looked into.

A member of Customer Services staff rang him this evening and apologised for the delay in him receiving the incentive payment, stated that it was an issue with marketing and that he was receiving the payment but it could be up to 2 weeks until it is actually made now, and apologies again... OH still not convinced he will see the incentive paid, but we seem to have some progress finally.
  • SUCCESS!

Got similar letter to previous poster and have rung to check and yes, the £100 is now in!

I will cancel this account once I have the £100 because I found some of the telepeople a bit off.

    What a mix up!!!
    Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
    Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000
'How much can you save' thread = £7,050
    Total=£29,100
    Mfi3 no. 88: Balance Jan '06 = £63,000.
    Balance 23.11.09 = £nil. :)

I was about to close my Coop account now I have my £100 but I am about close my main bank Halifax as they are changing the overdraft charges.

Anyone used the Coop overdraft, am I right saying the 1st £200 of the overdraft is free.

Really need a bigger overdraft of about £600, would they charge me an annual fee of £20 for this, any help?
  • The first £200 overdraft is fee free only. Debit interest will of course be charged on any overdrawn balance on the account. Agreeing an overdraft with the Co-op will indeed incur a £20 fee. As overdrafts are agreed for a period of 12 months or less this is effectively a £20 fee at least once a year.

Barclays might be worth investigating as an alternative. Their website suggests that they still have a new customer switcher deal on their Bank Account which would give you 0% overdraft for 6 or 12 months (depending on monthly salary credits), without the overdraft fee - ongoing overdraft EAR currently 2% above that of the Co-op. They may also be able to match an existing overdraft (I have no connection with Barclays and have not used their current account service).

Regarding the Halifax, I think some might advise that, rather than closing the account, you keep that account open and in credit for the £5 per month credits under their upcoming revised current account terms.

Select your chosen account from the left hand menu...

...and then open up the "account charges" pdf link.

£20 annual set up fee, then 15.9% AER not so competitve overdraft, will no close the account take my £100 an not switch my account to here.
