When you switched to A&L and got them to max your overdraft from Halifax, was this before they'd brought in the terms saying that the max O/D limit was £2500?

I asked the A&L virtual assistant and it said - "Assuming that you are eligible, Alliance & Leicester are able to match the overdraft limit that you enjoyed on your old account - subject to status."

Halifax have kindly given me a substantially increased approved limit so if I can get A&L to match that for 12 months it would be pretty good :)

I thought the £2.5K limit was the max allowed on account opening, based on standard credit scoring of your application and CRA data, and had always been the case?

I'm not sure what the theoretical max is under their matching offer, but they gave me £10K (not without an appeal though, they offered around half that initially and I had to agree to pay more than £500 in each month to get the £10K matched).

I'm hoping the match is for longer than 12 months. We'll see, but even if it isn't I'll still make around £450 net from stoozing it for 12 months. :D

Good point, even after 12 months if you get a 10k overdraft and you're only paying £5/month in charges on it it's still pretty good 'value for money' if you've got the cash at a good rate elsewhere and available if they ask for it back.

    Interesting.....

About to go for this. Does anyone know if Cahoot count as an "Abbey" account? Also is refer a friend plus quidco plus the incentive working as far as anyone knows (might need to find a friend ;) ).
  • I want to open this account for £100

I have 2 sleeper accounts, one has no DD's so i guess i cannot use this? The other has 1 DD so could use that one although its the only account that i've had for a long time so worried it would affect my credit rating???

I wondered if i could set up a standing order to my wife or something on the sleeper account with no DD then I could use that one?? ie would one SO suffice?

Also re the £500 deposit do you think when the account is opened with a free OD can I transfer 500 out then back in again without incurring charges and also meeting my 500 paid in!! Then repeat this monthly by standing orders so I dont forget! can anyone see any issues?
