As an update, their customer service are claiming it's within the shaded area:

Since I'm a newbie here I can't link, but if you go to google maps and stick in N 53 17.20 W 006 26.67 you can see where the hotel is - it's not even on the map on their site, never mind inside the shaded area!

The shaded area for City Centre North is 1.

It is on the map, but it is not in the zone you picked. Ring them up and tell them it is near Castleknock, keep calling until you get someone helpful, they will either refund or give you another chance to bid.
    Gone ... or have I?

I gave them a call. They spent 45 minutes trying to convince me that the hotel was in the shaded area. For some reason they have "near Seville place" in the address. It's nowhere near Seville place. My case has been "escalated to management". Talk about frustrating. Still no idea if I'll ever get any satisfaction. There's no way I can stay at that hotel, it's just too far outside the city.

Update: turns out the girl on the phone flat-out lied to me about the escalation. She sent me an e-mail saying:
We have reviewed the map of the hotel and on our website and conclude
that the hotel is within the correct area you have selected. From point
A of the hotel's website the direction is being showed, on how you are
going to reach the location of the hotel which is the point B which is
the Saggart Area, the exact location of the hotel. The information on
website is consistent, we do apologize, the reservation is non
    changeable and non cancelable.
When I asked her for confirmation of this case being escalated, I got another reply:
As previously advised; we, at the Customer Relations department reviewed
your reservation in our system, and your hotel is in the shaded Area
that you requested when you placed your request. The map you also
reviewed during the request process did display that the Area is shared
with another city or state. We apologize if you are not satisfied with
the location of the hotel within your chosen area; however, your
reservation is non-changeable and non refundable

The Customer Relations team is the highest level you can speak with, we
    are sorry we were not able to resolve this issue to your satisfaction;
however, there is not another department or person that we can escalate
your issue to that would address your concern differently.

Absolutely disgusted that they will not look into the actual location of the hotel. Would never go near this site again, should they be half as cheap as their nearest competitor.

I'm afraid all that got me was ignored. They've stopped responding to me and ringing just gets a "I'm sorry you believe your hotel is not in the zone, but it is actually located in the shaded area. Is there anything else I can help you with?" repeated ad nauseum.

  • Booked four star hotel on priceline 'name your price' section - turned out to be a three star according to the italian tourist board and according to several review sites should barely be a two star. Any idea what I can do?

You would have to prove that the hotel doesn't have the facilities that make it a 4* in PL's terms

Then possibly give them links to Travel sites that say the hotel is 3* or lower.

    Which hotel is it?

What are the reviews on Betterbidding, Tripadvisor or Biddingfortravel?

I'd be interested in hearing if you had any joy. From my experience, they will not accept anything except what's in their database. It's 100% accurate as far as they're concerned, and not even a hotel's own website saying contrary will change their minds. That's not to say you shouldn't try.

Needless to say I'll never go near them again.

Keep trying to speak to someone else Nuadha - I have had refunds from PL before, even when they have been in the right! Why not email them a copy of their map but also pointing out where the hotel is?

I'm afraid I was talking to them til I was blue in the face. There was a stage where I was left speechless because it was just going around in circles. I did e-mail them a copy of their map with the zones, but I couldn't point out on it where the hotel was because it wasn't on the the map of Dublin! They stopped answering my e-mails, despite the fact that I was calm and polite despite how I felt. Got the same reaction on the phone - just "I'm sorry you believe the hotel is not in the zone, but it within the shaded area on the map".

Just wondering if you got a refund for the Name Your Price feature, and if it was through e-mail or on the phone?
