The question is, are you willing to move around during your stay? I tend to move hotels every 2/3 nights as I get bored very quickly, but for some they like the security of being in one place.
Don't be afraid to leave your bidding for another month or so, New York is very popular but also has masses of hotel rooms - in my experience, the best bargains are to be had much closer to your dates.
thanks - I did wonder whether to leave it a few more days.....:) Someone on Priceline got the New Yorker for middle November for 185$ this week...so I'll prevaricate for a couple of weeks (didn't take much persuading did I?);)Bern :j0 -

Sorry to state the obvious but middle of November is different to early December so their winning bid could be either really high or really low.
It's really difficult to predict prices in New York as there are so many factors that can influence hotel rates (Conferences in town, Pre Xmas Shopping, bad weather etc)
If you have researched your budget then there's no harm in trying your luck at some low bids early on. Just don't get carried away!
Do you have any idea as to what you need to bid as a minimum (historical past low winning bids?) and what is your maximum going to be?
Personally I wouldn't split my 4 night stay unless I was really getting desparate.
The best option is to book a cancellable back up hotel (that you can tolerate) and then put in some low bids every couple of days .
Keep an eye on the forums to see if anyone else bags a bargain for your dates.
Ask BB for a strategy as they Thereuare is very helpful.0 -

they booked on 16/11 for 165$ and it is showing on the Ramada site for 279$ per night.
Thanks for all your help both - will look for a back up as the start of a plan...Bern :j0 -

Help! I'm still prevaricating - surfing boards and checking prices almost daily.
Then today I saw a thread somewhere on here with hotelconxions - checked the New Yorker and it's showing as 1084$ inc taxes - on the ramada site it's 1552$ for 4 - 8 December.
Now, firstly is Hotelconxions a decent site to book with? - or - could I book with the Ramada then 'find' the connxions cheaper price and get pricematch plus 10% off. Any (more:o) advice gratefully received.Bern :j0 -

Possibly get 10% if the rooms are the same etc.

Used HotelConexions to book Cosmopolitan in September. About $40 a night cheaper than any other site and no problems whatsoever.0

Be careful using this Priceline - just used the "Name Your Price" function to book a hotel in Dublin City Centre North, and my offer was "accepted".. for a hotel outside of Dublin City altogether to the southwest
Anybody else have this experience?
Since I won't drive in Dublin, I'll have to rebook somewhere else. Not a happy bunny at the moment.0 -
