I used the Priceline.com link from www.betterbidding.com and used the US address work-around for the credit card entry. I wanted 3 nights from 19th April. My first bid of $65 was rejected with a counter-offer of $83 which I ignored. I added zone 9 and bid $70, then added zone 6 and bid $73. I finally added zone 3 and bid $75.

Total with taxes for the 3 nights: $267.65 - the average nightly rate on the hotel's website for these 3 nights is $289! I'm quite chuffed with this bargain!
Well done. :T :T

Hope you have a great time!
• i was looking at using priceline for when i go to paris very much on a budget, judging by some people successes big there are big savings to be made, do you think its reasonable to bid £30 a night on a 5 night stay for a 3* hotel?

Thought I would treat TheOtherGirl to a weekend in London on the May Day long weekend. I wanted 5* in Mayfair - but didn't think I would get it for anything less than £150 p/n (even on Priceline), considering the area and the fact that it is a public holiday weekend. Put £70 in first (not expecting anything) - but received a counteroffer for £100 p/n. I knew from the article that I might be onto something. So I tried £80 (no dice), then 85 (ditto), then £90 - bingo!

3 nights at the Grosvenor House on Park Lane for £90 p/n. Thanks blindman for the tip - Needless to say I am in TheOtherGirl's good books!

Look at the recent wins on both Betterbidding and BiddingforTravel to see if that price has ever been a winner.

Paris is a difficult place to get a Priceline bargain IMHO.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.I managed to book my break for less than £500.
Flying to Palma £280 for 2 people on the dates mentioned above.
Staying in a 4* hotel for £45 per night: priceline.co.uk(many moneysavers had tried it and I think it's great as the hotel we are staying at is usually £150/£200 per night.)Maritim Hotel Galatzo

• I posted my Priceline win for this on the bidding for travel website and the crazy admin woman found out I was English and banned me ,thus removing my posts !

I thought it was an good deal so would like to share.

3 star Express by Holiday Inn Limehouse London 19/9/2009 1 Night for £23 with taxes & Fees this comes to £31.59 . As with all HI Express hotels this includes continental breakfast for 2 .

The cheapest advance rate on IHG is £72 so thats a saving close to 57%

Its a little way out in the Docklands area but is close to the DLR (Limehouse)so no worries really .

Did you state that you used the Priceline.UK site ?

That's what usually triggers a ban as she doesn't get revenue from them.

Thanks for posting the bid. Are you going to the O2 ?

I did indeed . I can still view the BFT site ( different IP address) so nothing lost for me .

We travel to London frequently and have used the £9 Travelodge offer a few times .I dont know if we were too early for the Sept-Dec sale or we have missed it but Im not too bothered as HI Express will allow early check in without forking out £10 and they are are generally a step up from TL.

We will be hitting the west end ,but no firm plans yet .

Ended up with a midtown west Holiday Inn Express for a decent price in early September. I suspect we'd have been able to get a higher star rating for a similar price if we waited till nearer the time, but the other half was anxious to get somewhere booked sooner rather than later.

Started bidding a bit low, then increased the areas (not entirely fussy where in the city we were staying), and dropped the star rating, which is what got us the deal. From reviews on tripadvisor, it's clean, comfy, central, and has free wifi and breakfast. And, it seems, about £50pn cheaper than the rack rate. So I'm happy.
