Destination: New York
Type accomodation 4*
how many extra bids 3
how much 2nd £80, 3rd £90, final bid £105
We arrived in New york on Saturday and stayed with a friend for first night then Sunday morning we bid for a hotel. We wanted a fairly central but high star rating hotel. At first times square wasn't coming up with results so we extended the search area to include mid town east and on our final bid was successful in getting hotel for £105 a night. We got the Helmsley on 42nd and 3rd and had a room with 2 double beds in it which meant we could invite our 2 friends to stay with us. As we had paid for the hotel the previous day this also meant we did not have to pay any additional fees for extra persons in the room. The total price was £568 which I then checked out immediately on the Helmsley hotel website and found it would have cost us £1385 so I think this was a real success story, 4* central hotel a stones throw from Grand Central station only cost £28-40 per person per night.0 -
Apologies if I am repeating a question but I have perused a number of threads and not found the answer to this.
The guide states that the room is for up to 2 people and that beds are not guaranteed. I'm looking to book a couple of nights away with my two children who are both under 8 and they are small enough for us to all sleep in a double. Will I get away with this?0 -

Depends on the hotel really and the check-in guy\girl.
Are you saying there is 1 adult with two kids?
Where are you hoping to go?0 -

Yes, 1 adult and 2 children. I've been looking at Chester and York as possible places but not too fussed where I go as long as its a couple of hours drive or less from the Midlands (although not London). Just fancy a couple of nights away somewhere and thought I would try out Priceline. If I get to grips with it, I'm then thinking of using it too book my accommodation for Florida in January.0 -

You may get away with it then, does depend on the hotel.
Have you looked at other cheap hotel web-site like Laterooms ?
Reason I ask is that there will be scant information about Chester or York and you may not save much over a conventional booking.
Found this review for the Marriot in York
There have also been wins for the Novotel and Holiday Inn in York
Just my thoughts.0 -
So pleased - just thought I'd try priceline and got lovely 4 star Millenium Gloucester Hotel for £58 (excl charges) - way, way cheaper than the really skanky hotels I was looking at.
Can't wait.
The bidding is so easy and a bit nerve-wracking, but you can't go that far wrong with a 4 star in a nice area.
Recommend others to try it.0 -
ive only decided that I wanted to go to boston this weekend, got some cheap flights off virgin atlantic but got really tired of looking for cheap but nice hotels as it is soooo last minute...thought I'd give priceline a go..
Star rating 3.5* onwards
Locations chosen were Cambridge, Theatre district and Financial district
I thought I'd just start at £50 a night (ie USD $80)..
I won straight away on the first bid, no challenge..which made me think that I may have put quite a high starting bid..
The hotel I got is Marriott Cambridge, it seems to have quite a nice review, £100 for 2 nights ie this Sat and Sun night.
I'm not sure if this was a good or bad outcome seeing this is my first time but considering how last minute this is I think it's pretty good -on https://www.hotels.com it would've cost me £270 in total...
Good luck y'all :j0
