sure ^ you must've had because their data base has search results from booking.com and agoda, both that offer unbelievable rates, specially during the off seasonit isn't :j the same :D

I suspect it is a glitch because normally priceline.co.uk should take us to the priceline.co.uk site and not to booking.com site.

It's not a glitch, PL have changed their landing page to this "new" one.
The link for "Name your own price" is now on this "new" page.

wow, I hadn't seen that. So I've been right all along in that this is a comparison site-comparing hotel prices from all sites, no more, no less but dressed it up as bidding to enchant users. We all like to feel that we got the rate we were looking for, don't we.

Not quite sure what you're getting at - the 'Name Your Own Price' part of Priceline is not a comparison site; you place a bid and if they find a hotel fitting your requirements that will accept your bid, the room is yours. Hotels use Priceline to sell 'distressed inventory' - in other words, rooms that would otherwise go unsold.

Im visiting new york in nov over thanksgiving weekend thurs24 - mon 28 , and was looking for somewhere to stay...do you think there will be good offers closer to the date or best to book early as its a busier time???

Just wondering if you'd had any success? We're looking to go 26 -30 Nov and am about to start bidding!

blindman - have read your posts and have got quite a bit of time to play around with bids, so will report back here with any success.

Also, blindman, someone asked about the possibility of getting a room with a shared bath on priceline and I wondered if you'd any experience of this happening, please?

I only know of hostels that may have shared bathrooms?

What star rating are you looking for in NYC-hopefully no lower than 3*

Even when I stayed at a 1* property (Not in NYC) we had our own bathroom:cool:

Not really paid too much attention to star ratings when we've been to NYC before as tend to go by trip advisor, but looks like it's 2* and below that have the shared bath, such as Hotel 17 for instance, Hotel 31 & Seton Hotel - basically all the ones that come up lowest price when you filter that way!

I'll stick to 3* and above then, thanks.

I have never seen these hotels on Priceline-though I don't follow the bidding as closely as I used to.

With PL it's usually better value if you stick to 3* and above in NYC as you get a better class of hotel for the same price as a basic one paid for the more conventional way.

Have you thought of across the Hudson in Jersey City?

    • How much were your 2nd/3rd etc & final bids: Bid over several days from £40 to £45
    • Started bidding on NYE from £40-45 without any success for the first few days then on 02/01/12 I had a counter offer to increase by £9 so I rebid £46 and got a counter offer to increase by £8. On 03/01/12 I bid £46 without success and won with rebid of £47. This is 36% of rack rate on NH website. :D
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.
