Second thing - do you really want to stay in Times Square? As others have said, it is a very, very busy area. I would suggest you also consider MTE & MTW. (I got a hotel in MTE for my stay in NY over Easter. I posted the details earlier on in this thread.)

Watch the cringe worthy:eek: video if you want but make sure you read my guide

  • Thanks for the priceline articles and tips!

    Destination: Cologne, Germany
    Type of accommodation: 5* Hotel

We needed 2 double rooms for 4 of us in Cologne for a specific date near the end of July, so I had quite a bit of time to play with which meant that I could leave 24 hours between bids with no problems. There are only 2 zones in Cologne, one of which was the airport so I couldn't play with zones for extra bids.

Started the bidding at only £20, not really expecting to get that one accepted! Second bid was £30 - rejected. Tried the 3rd bid at £35 per room this morning which was accepted for the Marriott 5* in Cologne - which was the hotel I'd been hoping for!

With taxes and service fees the total cost for two rooms for one night is £88.22. Current cheapest price on Expedia for the same night (special rate for booking 3 weeks in advance) is £168.98.

    Result! Thanks again

Glad you got what you wanted at a good price:

Your £20 bid for a 5* would never have been accepted as there is a minimum starting bid price for each star level.
Looks like you got the minimum 5* accepted level though! Well done!

I've added some extra text to the guide to include this info
The minimum starting bids accepted at each level:
    Presently these are :
    1 Star $15
    2 Star $17
    2.5 Star $19
    3 Star $25
    3.5 Star $25
    4 Star $40
    4.5 Star $40
    5 Star $55

Thanks for the guide, I just bagged 2 nights in the Hilton Canary Wharf for £58 a night, worked out at £140 all in, £70 a night was my top so just came in under. I actually would have preferred a more lodge type hotel as it's me and my daughter and I doubt I can afford breakfast there, but it's a fantastic price. I think they've put me in a smoking room also but called to ask if I could change to a twin and was told it is not possible to alter priceline bookings in any way :(
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

    That's rubbish!

Once you've won with priceline then the booking effective becomes like a 'normal' one (except for hotel points or status).

    1. Try again later over the phone to change the room, you may get another\better receptionist.

    2. If you can turn up early to the hotel then they should have flexibility to assign you to a twin non smoking room.

    Enjoy the stay.

I thought it was possible to alter them, but it's the first time I've used priceline, they put me through to reservations when I called the hotel, and she said as it was a third party booking it couldn;t be altered. I will try later, although hoping to get to the hotel about 3pm on the day
