It's possible to negotiate a deal with BT under which you can get free evening and weekend calls with the £120 advance line rental deal. So for £10 pm you get the line rental, with free calls at weekends and in the evenings.
I can't get them to better that, even by reference to the same deal being £2pm cheaper with Primus - anyone managed a better offer?0 -
Heinz, you are probably right, I was just hoping to get a much lower price for the all-in package.
o2 offered me a 1 year deal for BB, line rental & anytime calls (6 months BB at half price) that evens out at £17.25 per month, plus £1.78 pm for caller display, total £19.03 pm. plusnet came in (for the same package) at £19.54 have not checked yet if that includes caller display. These are for the basic BB packages, but as I don't do gaming or much downloading of films etc. it should be fine. My present costs are £21.65 pm. so I'll think about the O2 deal. but for £2 per month is probably not worth the hassle ! What is your opinion of the SKY package as I am already a SKY customer ?
If you're a Sky customer then give them a call, I've had Sky broadband (unlimited, LLU) since 2007 or so plus Sky Talk for the £5 pcm discount but I've kept BT for line rental until now, mainly to allow for caller override 18185.com.
However BT's recent line rental price hikes (up to £14.60 from 3/12/11) as well as the removal of their paperless discount - have been the last straw for me. Sky's line rental is £12.25 pcm (£9.95 if you pay 12 months in advance) which combined with the fact I make few monthly calls via the landline, mean it's curtains for BT -
I phoned Sky customer services today and they offered me Free BB and line rental for a year - yes FREE for a YEAR - so I said yes please! After 12 months it reverts to the normal price but it's still cheaper than BT - plus I get Caller Display and Voicemail for free - which I couldn't get with BT, or rather they'd make me pay extra for it. So I'm currently a very happy bunny. :TBlessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -
Hi All,
I have just completed my current contract with talk talk for their essential and broadband std package no frills.
On quidco as a new talktalk customer I could have free connection (£30) plus (£65) cashback and half price broadband for 6 months on a 12 month contract not bad as a new customer.
So thought I would see what deal I could get using the above as a target.
Ended up with 1/2 price offer for 12 months and £2 discount monthly which should end up as monthly line rental of £9.50 if paid in lump sum of £114 and £1.25 for phone and Broadband so therefore £10.75 / month for a 12 month contract.
Asked CR to confirm in email to be told we cant do emails makes you laugh a telecom co cant do email so asked for written confirmation if this deal does not show up then Tesco is the next best for me as 1/2 price for 6 months and £35 cash back via quidco.
Hope this may help a talk talk customer.

I use MSE frequently for all sorts of purchases, so naturally came here to look at options for home phone/broadband. I went to Primus - low cost, good package - was promised a 2-3 week wait for installation. By the time they finally gave me a firm date that lead time had become almost 8 weeks. Because I don't like being misled, I cancelled the order. I then went to plusnet. I was categorically promised a 1-2 week timescale for installation - within hours, my confirmation came through, with a new timescale of almost 4 weeks. It would be really helpful if these sorts of issues could be flagged in this article. Sometimes, good value for money is about getting the service you really need, when you need it - not just about the price:(0

Go to o2 for a deal. Never had a problem in 3 years with them. Had Primus once and couldn't wait to get out."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
about TalkTalk - the main article says go for the "Essentials" package, I agree, I have that package. TT are often pushing upgrade to "Plus" package for inclusive calls at any time. But they fail to mention the "Anytime Calls" boost for £4.50pm, which is less than the upgrade, and if you don't want the "unlimited" BB, or the "Super Safe Boost" (which is TT badged F-Secure security package) then avoid "Plus".
Line Rental in advance £114 for 12 months is good value, but customers are being confused by the way it gets applied to their bills.0 -
i currently have the bt package 1 the cheapest one, i only have it for my oranage broadband and to call the odd 0845 type numbers i am looking to change to a cheaper one.
Primus: £6.79/month which is mentioned on here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/home-phone-calls#btupfront
is this any good, is anyone with them. i dont need any extras and get plenty of mins on my mobile for the inclusive calls.
or if there is any others which posters recommend? My Signature is MY OWN!!0 -
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hi, I am going go negotiating a new contract with TalkTalk soon. I'm sure they'll try and get me to go for the year up front line rental, what is confusing about how it's applied to bills?0 -
Hello,
I have Post Office Broadband/Homephone package which comes with free voicemail(1571)
however, i had a previous cordlessphone with answer machine customisable which is brilliant:custom announcement, number of rings, and little light when there are messages.
with the Post Office Voicemail, i get absolutely none of it.
i come home, i have no idea if i have any messages, i don't know after how many rings the standard(rubbish) announcement kicks in so dunno whether to rush or not.
I know it's free but such a useless piece of crapp.
Anything can be done about it?
Many thanks,
Fabrice
just a quick call to to Post Office customer services(very nice on the phone by the way) and in less than 48hours, 1571 is gone. no fuss, no bother;now i can use MY answering machine.Fabrice
