Sorry should have said the line rental is within both prices. Basically the Sky deal is free broadband and line rental is £12.24 with free eve & Weekend calls.

At the moment its BT option 1 and line rental and Broadband.

You should read back on this thread. Heinz says and I agree that SKY is the cheapest if you can get a reasonable service and speed from them. But I don't think you can use 18185/1899 etc.

Yes, I was detailing my daughter's experience with Sky.

Just to confirm, with Sky you cannot use override provider 18185 via their 18185 prefix (but, of course, use of their - more expensive rates - 0808 access number is possible).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I'm a low call user of a non-broadband line with occasional calls to/from a mobile. I'm looking to change from TalkTalk, as despite sending letters requesting them to stop and calling them to ask, they keep phoning up to try and sell me a new package and/or broadband.

I no longer have a BT broadband line, it was almost as bad as dial-up anyway (Wales, hills etc). I switched from BT because following their pc help instructions caused me to lose important family data/photos and the general standard of service was poor.

Now I have told TalkTalk that I have had enough of them phoning me up and am going to move. I've read the forum related article but although it is good on costings, it doesn't tell us anything about service. Can anyone recommend their provider's service? Of course I am looking for cheap line rental and call costs, but not so cheap as to be rubbish at looking after their customers. Is your provider great to deal with? Many thanks in advance.
  • Are you on a market1 exchange?
Put the exchange name into here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
(bottom rhs of the exchange page, OFCOM classification).
If so you only have a choice of BT resellers. Do you want broadband again?

Thanks Phones4Chris, that's a useful site, and yes I discover that I am on a market1 exchange, so it's only another reseller I can go to from TalkTalk. Just have to find one that listens when you ask for no marketing calls, being unlisted and with Telephone Preference is no good if it's the telephone company that keeps calling! Cheers.

No. 5p connection + 0p/minute regardless of duration.

Setting up a Direct Debit (not the use of a credit or debit card) to pay your bill is strongly recommended.
