For all those looking at changing home phone provider/broadband:
I'm a Sky HD customer but currently have BT phone line rental and Orange Broadband (the broadband is free as I took it out when I set up my Orange phone contract when they had an offer on - the broadband is rubbish though, they keep sending out routers that break and the call centre is in India and it takes hours of none understanding from the call handler to explain the problem so really more hassle than it's worth as a freebie. Also it's a 20mb download limit so not ideal for ITV Player, BBC iplayer etc). I am therefore currently paying the BT line rental cost of £14.90 a month.
I'd seen Sky's offer online for 6 months free unlimited broadband if you take their line rental or the 12 months 1/2 price unlimited broadband offer, but looking round there appeared to be better offeres out there. I thought I'd give them a call to find out a bit more, as being a Sky customer I was interested in the Sky Anytime service for the TV, but wanted to see if it was worth paying a bit more on the line rental charges for.
Phone up and explained who I'm currently with and what I wanted to gain from my phone and broadband and Sky Anytime.
I've been offered FREE line rental for 12 months (the contract itself is only 12 months so I can swap at the end) worth £12.25 a month, 6 months FREE unlimited broadband, Sky talk Freetime - all calls after 7pm and before 7am to 01,02, 03 and 0870 numbers are free, Free caller display and 1571 service and I will get the Sky Anytime pack as I have the right Sky package for my TV account. This equates to £45 a year (or £3.75 a month) for line rental and unlimited broadband. No set up fee either and I made sure I asked about hidden charges of which I am assured there are non (let's hope).
Needless to say I snapped their hand off. I'd looked online at the cashback sites and the cash back was no where near the cost of a years line rental either.
Total Saving from Sky on usual Package = £197 a year
Total Saving on what I'm currently paying to BT with free Orange Broadband = £133.80
I don't know if it's available to everyone who's a currently sky customer who doesn't already have the line rental and broadband, but certainly worth a try.0 -
word of advice please...i have transferred from bt to sky for calls and line rental...i paid a year in advance for bt rental which finishes on the 16th and now paid a year in adavnce for sky as its cheaper..as it takes a couple of weeks to transfer am i right that i will have to bite the bullet on one months bt rental as sky wont have transferred it in time to make it a seamless transition..would it be a bad thing to cancel the debit after the 16th as would bt just cancel the line and sky wont be able to take over0

I wouldn't cancel the DD until the transfer is done. Cancelling a DD doesn't cancel the service, it only cancels your method of payment and they may come after you for non-payment. Also if you are due a refund from BT if you have paid in advance, they can refund it to your bank account if the DD is still live.0

Please can anyone help? I managed to tie myself into a rolling contract with BT which is not good value and I'm looking to change within the next month as the contract is coming to an end.
I am currently paying about £49 a month for line rental and calls with BT and broadband from Tesco supplied through my BT Line.
I am looking for a bundled package because I know we are too lazy to dial a prefix or to use different suppliers.
Currently the best deal I can find is TalkTalk through Quidco. This would be £24.80 per month with a possibility of £68 cash back from Quidco.
Does this seem a good deal? It seems fabulous to me. And, if I go for it how do I cancel my BT contract and Tesco contract to ensure there is no break in my supply.
Thank you for your help.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0 -
Go via Quidco and get evening and weekend calls plus unlimited broadband working out at just over £11 a month after cashback.
The offer
bb and off peak calls to UK landlines inc 0845/0870 (7pm-7am)
£5 a month for orange customers or £10 a month for non-mobile customers
£12.75 line rental
Go via Quidco and receive £80 cashback (ends Sunday 19/2 at midnight)
Want unlimited anytime calls?
£10 a month for orange customers or £15 a month for non-mobile customers, still the same bb allowance but 24/7 free calls to UK landlines and 0845/0870 plus £100 cb0 -
When you are logged in to your account and selected e-billing, if you then click on the <print> option, it opens in a new tab and you get a breakdown of All the charges at the bottom of the page below what you would see if you select the <view> option.
It doesn't go to print immediately, but you can print the page if you want. I print mine to a pdf file for convenience using a program called PDFCreator. I'm using version 1.2.1, but I think there's a later one.0 -
I am on talktalk but my contract with them has already ended so am looking to move.
I am looking to move my phone, broadband, tv (only really need indian channels like star plus) for a better deal.
Could some advise on the best route to go about this?
Shall I get the sky broadband + line from this offer at £17 (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sky-broadband-truly-unlimited-line-rental-for-only-13-08-per-month-after-50-quidco-1143831)
And then get this sky tv offer for £3 effectively? (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/join-sky-tv-20-p-m-get-100-m-s-vouchers-101-topcashback-effectively-3-25-p-m-1152628?page=1)
PS - I have never had sky and was with talktalk/tiscali for 7 years so I think I will get M&S voucher without issues but not sure about quidco since its not 100%.
What should i get?
I can pay 12 months line rental in advance.
PPS - I also checked out virgin tivo deal on quidco with £352 cashback but am nervous about quidco here again and its still not as cheap overall. http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/specials/affiliate/cashback/quidco.html0 -
After seeing their offer on the Moneysaving email, I tried to find out, online if my line was compatible. I was unable to do this and received a call from them this morning. The sales assistant asked about my usage, but stated that I would need a new telephone number. I listened patiently and then tried to tell her that I wasn't interested, because I didn't want to change my number (and all that would entail) as well as the fact that it wouldn't be that much cheaper. She constantly interrupted me and eventually put the phone down on me. I knew it was a mistake to even consider TalkTalk.0

can i ask if sky phone line rental is reliable and is it a free phone number to ring if there is a problem please. never been with anyone apart from bt and have been with aol for years with no problems. not sure i would get a cheaper deal though, currently bt £15mth line rental and aol £7 mth for broadband and all calls0

If I was getting broadband and all geographical calls for £7/month, I'd be inclined not to try to fix something that ain't broke - despite the slightly higher line rental.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
