Cheapest Home Phones Article Discussion

Having had numerous problems with Primus recently so looking to move phone and internet. Any idea what is the cheapest BUT has decent customer service company out there? Seems to be so much choice that I just don't know who to go with. I can't get cable here and don't want Sky cos I can never get their 'cheap' packages that they advertise.0

Maybe I'm being completely dense, but when an offer listed in the article says connection is included, does this mean:
1 - an new line would be installed
2 - an existing line would be connected to the new supplier
I ask because I have no land line at present and would like to get one.0 -
Hi
I am contemplating getting the Talk Talk Essential's package currently on offer
12 months contract
£ 3.25pm for broadband (half price offer)
£ 114 for 12 months advance phone line rental
£ 50 Tesco gift card
Effective cost per month £ 8.25
I would like to know if anyone in Tile Hill area of Coventry is on TalkTalk and if so how do they rate their broadband connection/speed? I have read and they are not highly ranked nationally, but so are Orange - however being on orange for last 18 months, it has never failed me. I get speeds of 5Meg - which I am satisfied with
If anyone can guide/help - the deal sounds too tempting, but do not want to have an illusionary money saving when the phone calls to customer services could cost a bomb + additional loss of peace of mind!

Can you help with this query:
I am currently with BT for line rental only and pay £17 per month of direct debit.
I have my broadband via sky with their free offer as have tv and the free evening calls.
I have spoken with Sky this morning and they are only offering me TV deals and line rental at £12.25
BT will do calls and line rental at £11.60
But the Primus offers are obviously £6.29 for no calls and £7.99 for weekend.
I am a really really low phone user - calling BT today was the first call in about 4 weeks I have made. I am signed up for 18185 and do use if calling abroad.
So the question is what would be the best? Am thinking that the £7.99 Primus deal is the way to go .....

from what i understand, the biggest drawback of having line rental with anyone other than BT is if you decide to change Broadband providers. again, from what i understand, you have to have a BT line so you can wsap. that means paying out to have a card change done at the local exchange (that probably takes about 10secs) but costs around £130. just another legal way that BT rips off customers in the UK by punishing them for leaving in the first place!0

I am looking for a cheap bundle and thought Talk Talk was it, but looking into their £3.25 "unlimited" package I found that the broadband is actually limited to 40GB upload/download. It's their £7.25 package that is uncapped and truly unlimited. I hope the MSE review be updated so it is not as misleading as the huge Talk Talk billboards all over London!!0

A long time ago I made the mistake of having telephone and broadband from the same supplier. So when the problems started I was without broadband for about 2 months and phone for 2 weeks. Never again, the savings are not worth it when things go wrong. Now if the phone goes I can use my computer to make VOIP calls, and if the broadband goes I can still use the telephone.0

T&Cs
7.1.1 Primus may process such personal data for the purposes of administering the relationship with the Customer and, as part of its use of such data, may transfer that data to other Primus affiliates in jurisdictions outside the UK which do not provide the same level of protection for personal data as exists in the UK.
7.1.2 Primus may also, from time to time, use such personal data to provide the Customer, whether by telephone or facsimile or electronic mail or other means of communication, with details of promotions, products and services of Primus may be of interest to the Customer.
Does this mean they offset the 'cheap' upfront deal by selling your details to cold callers ?0 -
...and they reconfirmed guaranteed override phone number use, as Martin said.
Binned the idea of going with Plusnet for line rental because predictably, since I already have the broadband, I'm not a new customer and don't qualify for the £50 cashback.0 -
I want to sign up to the Primus service with evening and weekend calls, as listed in the Home Phones article. However, while I can go to the Primus website, when I click on the link to the secure site to sign up, I keep getting told I can't display the page. I have no phone or internet at the moment (currently staying with my parents) so I want to sign up asap. Anyone else having problems with the website? Presumably, if I sign up by phone I won't get the same deal.0
