It saves paying rental for one?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It costs folk more to phone you if you only have a mobile. OK friends and family with free minutes would not notice, but they are paying a monthly fee which is usually quite high. Home phone owners have to stump up a minimum of 6p per minute.

I think everyone has call connection charges nowadays..

    Primus 11p
    PO: 9.6p
    Talk Talk: 12.5p
    Plusnet: 12.5p (from Dec)
    ....

    To add to that.
    Yourcalls.net 9.5p https://www.yourcalls.net/Features/Phone.aspx
    adsl24 Nil http://adsl24.co.uk/linerental/

Half tempted to jump ship been with yourcalls 5 years any time now but like BT they have a rolling contract to catch you out.
My broadband contract expires 19 April with another ISP also a renewable 12 month contract, think they all are for FTTC.

    "Rolling" contracts are now banned.

Primus connection fee is now 12.9p since 15th Jan. for chargeable calls

adsl24 may have a nil connection charge, but they don't have inclusive calls and their line rental isn't especially cheap although most of their Line features except 1571 are quite cheap!
It really depends on when and how much you use your phone.

Yes and, like 18185, they charge a 4p connection fee for international calls.

Strangely, the other sister company, 18866, appears to charge 5p connection regardless of the destination.
