Hi All
Landline currently with BT - I don't use my landline for calls, only broadband. I am trying to lower my monthly line rentals as much as possible, I pay ~£11.50 at the moment, which is the miminum one can pay BT.
I understand Primus can knock off £2/month.
My question: Has anybody tried/been successful at getting a discount from BT?
I'm wondering whether if I call them and tell them I am leaving, they might offer me a discount. Just wanted to know whether anybody had had any similar luck before I give it a go!0 -

Don't get me wrong I am not a big fan of TalkTalk but I am willing to see what they have to offer along with other companies.
Not me I'm afraid - I don't work on the phones anymore. Always nice to hear that you've received the help you needed though
Cheers

hi
as talk talk have now decided to charge tiscali cutomers more after christmas we would like to find a better deal
our area isnt available for their cheap all in bundles so had a look round and found this 'too good to be true?' deal from the post office
you dont have to pay BT line rental either
can anyone point us in the direction of an even better 'all in' deal or is there something wrong with this one that i cant see?I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
I am looking around for a new phone line and braodband package too, but the thing is - I am LEAVING TALK TALK BECAUSE THEY ARE AWFUL!!
They are a FALSE ECONOMY!! Yes, they do have relatively cheap deals - but what's the point if the broadband is down so many times and it took me so long to be connected - about 6-7 weeks!
Just before I joined, the customer service/sales were so rude and uninformative too, but I kept on because I wanted a cheap deal and Talk talk seemed to have that - but DON'T!
I will look into Post office or other services - otherwise rather pay slightly higher with Virgin or BT and get the service than for Talk Talk to take money and have broadband down or not connect me.0 -

Hi bubbles0169, J Cash, pavr28 and anyone else asking the question- where to now?
I've also been researching to switch home phone provider and noticed that a number of the deals mentioned on the MSE site will be slightly more expensive from Jan 1st with the VAT increase (ave between 25p- 50p). Primus Saver 2 will be £9.99, Post Office- £12 and Plusnet will be £11.25. I don't know if or how much BT will be increasing their basic charge or if the others like Talk-Talk will be putting up their line/package charges. The call charge tariffs will also be affected (certainly re Plusnet).
So- in terms of prices and comparisons- it's maybe not that clear yet where the land lies.
Is this something MSE can check out and clarify as the price increases are not yet included in the home-phone article.....?
I know I want good customer service and reliability and so far with Primus (my calls are still with them) and BT (line rental) I have been very far from satisfied. Don't we just hate being batted from pillar to post and getting nowhere very fast and why has it all become so difficult just to talk to someone and get a straight/honest answer? Anyway......
Re the Post Office home-phone with broad-band at £20.95; I know someone who has the phone only package and he has had no complaints but if you want b-b also it looks like you get a max 5GB monthly allowance and so I personally don't think that's such a good deal, eg. Plusnet's value b-b is twice that at 10GB month. There are other stand-alone b-b packages mentioned on MSE worth looking at but (so-far) I'm happy with Plusnet as they were v helpful with getting me set-up with my b-b and they have been v helpful with any other queries. Of course- early days- but I prefer to be optimistic.
Plusnet home phone and b-b will be £17.24 (ish) from Jan 1st but I think Quidco are currently doing a good cash back for b-b and home phone + b-b if you take the deal before the end December- if I remember right it could even = around £3 per month off the home phone + b-b value package which would make it just over £14 (approx) per month over the 12 months- but you would need to check this.
If you decide to go with another home phone provider but then choose stand-alone b-b from another source then Quidco's cash-back on the Plusnet b-b only could also make it worth serious consideration.
Anyway- from my research and being v fed-up with how things have gone previously- I'm thinking of Plusnet as a serious option- and despite them being owned by BT etc etc. Plusnet have informed me that they don't block 18185 etc. and this might be of interest to all you avid users out there.
Hope this helps add to the mix?0 -
Using the 12mnth link, you should get words about 12mnth free in big white letters in the black area on the essentials intro page. Scrolling down should show the prices, and £6.49 crossed out, for 12 mnths.
Next, put your tel no and post code in, and you'll get a personalised offer with your likely line speed, and a summary of costs. But with no mention of the offer.
In the box at the bottom of these costs, put in the offer code 300AEFREE and press update.
It'll refresh, with the costs updated, mentioning 12 mnth free below the £6.49, and the code still showing, and some words below the code saying 'Promotion, 12 mnths free essentials'.
If this doesn't work, try closing the talktalk tab, and deleting all cookies for talktalk. If it mentions 'not available on this channel', then definitely delete the cookies.
Hope it helps. Been there myself with the last offer. It didn't work online, but it was the first day. But I pushed hard, and got some very good, interested, motivated staff, who wanted to understand why nobody told sales, etc, about offers in the public domain. And then sorted it. I'm not connected yet, but I'm optimistic, because some of the staff were very good.
Here's hoping. Good luck.
PS. The bit about the cookies came from Baggio, post 312. It helped me back then, and now that I'm registered I've just been back and thanked him.
PPS. Offer intro (big white letters in the black area on the essentials intro page) says expires 15dec09. But following the ** to the note at the bottom, says expires 31dec09).
Thank you. This is very helpful.
My local exchange finally went LLU for TalkTalk on Dec 16th, my landline is currently with BT, so I can now hopefully sign up for TalkTalk Essentials.
Is this the best way to do it, or am I missing anything? I checked Quidco*, and your way seems better.

I would just like to warn people that if they or their older relatives still have the old-fashioned "low user discount" and quarterly billing, then they are unlikely to be able to better it with ANY other package. Other products can sound like they are good when a salesperson comes on the phone but the amount they are quoting is MONTHLY not QUARTERLY! Be very, very careful. Once that discount is lost you will be unable to get it back.0

Hi all,
I am thinking of getting the Talk Talk Essentials package. I'm moving to a house without a phone line so I need to get one installed which I know will cost £60. I was thinking of going through Simplify Digital for the £60 cashback which will cover that installation cost. My question is, will I still be eligible for the free connection (saving £30) that they are currently offering if I do this and, is it the cheapest route to take?
Thanks!0 -
I signed up with Primus and received an automatic email from them, which included the password I had entered.
Anyone who knows anything about internet security knows that this is a very bad idea. So I asked them if they could please not do it. Their reply was:Thanks for the email.
