Regarding the Sky + recordings. There is no way to view them once the boxes are switched according to Sky. They suggested that I record things I want to keep to DVD. I am now recording Lost and Desperate Housewives as I hadn't got round to watching them then having a weekend of frantic TV watching to clear the recordings. I think this should be made clear on installation - I only was told because I asked. It's not a nice surprise losing everything you recorded.

Had the sky engineer out today, I still cannot view the recordings made on the sky+ box prior to it's relocation, he refused to swap over and re-pair the cards.
    Angry.

I will ask Sky to take away the HD and refund my money.

Anyone else with the same problem?

I had HD installed about a year ago. I had it put in upstairs keeping my Sky+ box downstairs so it wasn't touched. Exactly the same thing happened to my Sky+ as yours. It took me over a week to resolve!! I phoned Sky daily and was fobbed off every day by them saying it 'should be back in a few hours'. What made it even more annoying was I had to explain the situation every single day as Sky would not give me any kind of support reference number and it seemed that they didn't record any of the details of previous calls. It wasn't until the following week I seemed to strike lucky and was put through to someone who could see what the problem was and solved it in under 10 minutes!!!!

I hope to god you don't go through this agonizing process I went through.

OK here goes, another 20 minute conversation with SKY technical help desk, read that as just desk!

They insist that the cards cannot be changed over to allow me to use previous recordings as one card is deemed to be the primary card and that now has to be in the HD box and was previously in the SKY+ box. This is purely down to their computer system as all cards serve the same purpose and can be paired to any box, they appear not able to simply change which of the cards is the master card in their computer system.

Recordings on the paid for channels (I only have some from SKY1 and sports) will only play back if the card that was in when they were recorded is in the SKY+ box, other recordings i.e BBC , Channel 4 etc still play OK.

The (sort of) good news. If I take the card out of the HD box and put it back in the SKY+ box I can view the recordings I could not view previously, I cannot however watch any subscription channels as I have the 'wrong' card in the box. It will allow me to archive the material however.

Obviously while I am doing this then the HD box cannot be used as I have no card in it.

So SKY, get your act together, this is a well known problem and one I personally have informed your technical staff of on several occasions now. If you are really unable to simply change which card you call the primary card, a card which is no different to any other card, then at least tell customers that they will have these problems and that they will have to archive recordings prior to the change .

    Hope this helps some people.

So I should be able to take the card out of the HD box, stick it temporarily in the Sky+ box, and then transfer the saved programmes over to DVD or VHS? If so, thanks for that Stw48.

There is a website called sky copy plus that gives some advice on how to get round the problem. I can't link because I am on an i phone but OH is reading up on it now. I think there is some software to download so you can transfer things from one hard drive to another.

Followed Cabbages's instructions to the letter (post 50 ) and right away was offered it for £105 taking sky sports for a year which I was going to take anyway as I only cancelled sky sports for the summer. Oh will be sooo happy.

    Just got it.

Got through to the international call centre. He said he needed to put me through to his colleague. Following advice from the earlier post, I pressed him to find out which department. He said sales, and before he could do that, he would need to take some details. I said ok. He started talking, I hung up.;)

Tried again straight away. Got through to Scotland and a guy called Frank.
Sound bloke. Said I could do it, although I would have to upgrade to the full package from just Sports for an extra £7 a month. This was not a problem as 1 or 2 of the adverts for Sky Movies was making me have a re-think about re-subscribing to movies (and having cancelled Setanta, I'll be up 50p!)

Got it for £105 total and installation will be on the 10th August (could have had the 3rd, but want more time to transfer things from my current box) which is a sunday. Extremely convenient!!

Cheers to the OP & Cabbage :T

I don't have multi room. I had to agree to keep movies for a year that's all. I'm not sure we are keeping HD though. The SD picture is awful through he HDMI cable and the forwarding and rewinding is terrible on this new box. There is loads of jumping. It seems like a big price to pay for a couple of HD channels.
