just a quick one on this if i get a hd box can i put my sky+ in the bedroom where my existing old black box is and can i record on the sky+ in the bedroom
just need to get it clear before i make my demanding phone call

Not sure if you had an answer to this.

Basically a Sky+ box relies upon two inputs from the LNB (the thingy with the cables coming out of it on the end of the arm attached to the dish in layman's terms). For a standard Sky Box you only need one input. The HD box is basically a better Sky+ box that requires 2 inputs. So, you should be able to just swap a Sky+ and Sky HD box as they both require two inputs.

However, if you swap a standard Sky Box (your old black Sky box) for a Sky+ box you will need another input from the LNB to the box if you want to use it properly. The Sky+ box can be used with just a single input but without many of its normal features being available to you. i.e. you will not be able to record a programme and watch a different programme at the same time; you will only be able to record a single programme at a time not two; you may have a lot of failed recordings. You will also need to remember that with only a single input the Sky+ box can be a little tempermental on how it records. You will find that if you set a number of recordings on different channels they may not all or a all record. The only way you can have even a little certainty that you will get a recording is by leaving the Sky+ box “tuned” to the channel you want recorded, this will then force a recording. If you then follow on wanting a recording on a different channel, it is likely that oftenthe Sky+ box will not change channels and the recording will fail or you'll get the wrong channel recorded.

If you already have Sky+ and a separate Sky Box in your bedroom your LNB will already have four outputs (you will currently be using 2 for your Sky+ and 1 for your black Sky box). I would suggest that your best (and not very expensive) option is to run another cable from the spare output on your current LNB to your bedroom so that you will then have two inputs for your relocated Sky+ box. It will then work as you already know and love!! If you ask the Sky fitter who comes to install your SkyHD box he may run another cable for you for nothing, or for a drink? Ortherwise a local aerial installer should be able to do it for a small fee (unless you're at the top of a tower block of course.

    Hope that helps?

I finally managed to get this deal yesterday. Used the 01506 421825 option 1,4,5,3 and then 5 cancellation (previous posts said option 4 for the last option but I got through to tech support with that option).

The lady confirmed that this offer is not available to all depts and its definitely not available from sales so if they put you through to them - forget it. It should have expired on 18 July but she still put it through.

I have to pay £10 per month for HD subscriptions and I have to keep one premium channel for 12 months otherwise they will charge me full whack for the HD box and installation.

I've been trying to get this deal for the last 3 days. One bloke on the 01506 number a couple of days ago said that the deal is available online only so like an idiot I hung up and then found its nowhere to be seen online at this price.

I've had quite a few challenging conversations with the overseas call centre. One chap told me this price is only available to new customers. I said I've been a customer for 11 years so where's my special deal. I also said its available in shopping centres and then he suggested that if that's the case then why don't I buy it through them. He also kept me hanging while he checked if the deal was online.

My top tip is to keep trying the 01506 number and use the options quoted above until you get to the right dept which should be cancellations/downgrades. If you don't get the deal hang up and redial and keep trying. The first person you speak to may seem like they know the deal but if they can't do the deal for you and try to put you through to the "correct department" you know that they are just saying enough to get you off the line and are going to put you through to sales and as stated earlier this deal isn't available through sales so you are wasting your time.

    Best of luck everyone.

I wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU for this post. After originally posting back in July, SKY screwed me around until yesterday. Saw your post, thought what the hell, let me give it a try, and BINGO!

SKY HD for £105, installing on Monday. Spoke to a lovely lady by the name of Kim in their Dunfermline call centre.

    Thanks Again.:T

So not fair.... I did as advised:
called 01506421884 - no IVR, straight to a Scottish lady. I asked ask to go through to downgrade dept - she asked why. I asked for the promotion as I saw it online.

She passed me to a guy called Colin. He said that I could NOT get it at that price because.... I have Sky. I apparently need Sky+ to take up the offer. He told me to read the T&C online about the HD upgrade.
He DID try to put the codes through to order me it, but apparently the system wasnt accepting them.

I have called Sky about 7 times now - no budging on this!

I have no multi-room (only 1 TV) - and on the £21 package. I've had Sky for about 4 years. I even said I would have the movie channels for a year if they can offer me it. Nope.
  • Thanks to all posters on this thread. I used the options:

    01506 421825 option 1,4,5,3 and then 5 cancellation

and got HD box for £75 + £30 installation. Only condition was I had to keep premium mix (sports or movies) for next 12 months.

I am a current subscriber with Sky+ and Sports - no multiroom.

    Thanks again :T

Hello - just a quickie as its late and I'm no good at this.

I called Tuesday pm after reading this thread (thanks to you all) I had cancelled SKySports over the summer with no footy on. I asked about the deal openly and said I'd seen it online and a fried had got HD for £75. I said I'd be prepared to add Skysports back on if I could get HD for that price. The helpful lady (although not that helpful at this stage!!) tried to enter it on the system but "computer said no". When pushed, she read out the T&C's out loud which said that you'd need to have a premium channel.

Fair enough I said, then can I add Skysports and then get the £75HD? - "No"

I then asked "If I get Skysports now and then hang up, dial in again and say I want to cancel, would you offer me the deal?" whilst having some banter about the daftness of it....

"No" was the answer unless I waited 30 days. To cut a long story short, despite the lady saying I'd have to wait 30 days once re - starting Skysports, as soon as she'd added it I asked her out of curiosity whether the system would now allow me to have the deal for £75 and lo and behold it did.....;)

So, the £75 + £30 applies to anyone with 1+premium channel who is at risk of downgrading the package it would appear to me. I was straight up about it and didn't threaten to leave or anything and with a bit of cajiling got there in the end.

Hope that helps you guys out there. Good luck!

I have tried for a deal today and no luck, unless I took on a premium channel.I have been with sky for over 11 years.Fed up! Im going to try the scotland number one more time.
It doesnt save me anything to take on a premium channel for 12months,I only pay the £21 package currently.
I want broadband for £5 and the HD mix for £10 but the best deal is only £150 box +£60 fitting for me.
