I've had HD for about a year and the quality is not that much different on my 32ins Philips LCD. Maybe it's better on larger screens.

I called to cancel the HD subscription as I didn't think the level of quality was worth the £10 extra and now have the same service at half price - £5 for the next 6 months.

    What tv do you have??

Is it optimzed for sky hd the out of the box settings are seldom the best.

well, i'm kicking myself. i missed all this talk of discount skyHD and went ahead and upgraded from Sky+ (paying £20 a month) for £150 box plus £60 "install" (read: unplugging old box and plugging in new box).

So now i am paying an extra £10 a month for having the HD mix (which my Sky guy said was ending in the next month or so).

I heard that existing Sky users were being offered the chance to upgrade to Sky Movies whereby they get the first 3 months at half price. I would take out Sky Movies at that price, especially now i have HD and there are 3, soon to be lots more, HD movie channels. But could i get Sky to offer me the same deal? Course not.

I've phoned 5 times and emailed, spoken to sky customer service reps from all over the globe, and no one can offer me this deal. On my last call I said "Sky are paying money to send out letters offering this deal to customers, some won't want it and will bin the letter, and I am coming to Sky at no cost to the them and asking to take out the package offer." The response each time was "sorry, the offer isn't on your account".

I'm going to write a letter to Sky HQ because it's really annoying me. I'm a long time customer, have taken out a new contract and paid full price for the HD upgrade, am paying the extra £10 a month for limited HD channels, and I have to read on forums about people in the same position as me phoning customer services and getting through someone who can offer great deals. Is it a lottery when you call customer services?

sorry for the rant, this is just a practice for what i want to say to them in a letter! when i was a happy sky+ customer with no need to phone them i was perfectly happy with Sky. Since I have had to actually deal with them, I'm right ar**d off.

    again, thanks.

  • phoned sky about 20 mins ago using the previous mentioned number and menu options, got through to cancellations.indian woman told me this is the wrong department to be talking about skyhd [!!] so she put me through to skyhd sales dept.i feared the worse.glad to say the woman asked if id seen any deals,i told her [maybe shouldnt have mentioned the sports] i had seen an offer on the net offering the £75+30 installation deal if i took out sky sports, she said this deal wasnt available for me but told me i could have it for £75+60 installation and keep the cheap package that im on! result! getting hd installed on saturday and i can still go the pub for the football instead of paying for it and being told by the wife to "get that effing football off"!! when i turn the tv on. thanks to everyone for making this all happen.

Just seen an ad on the tv and looked on the sky website. Am I right in thinking that the £75 hd plus £30 installation is now the standard charge for existing customers now if you select the hd mix? Looks as though doing it online gets you a £15 discount as well.

    Or have I misunderstood?!
  • The other half phoned them last week and told them she wanted to cancel our SKY and the offered her HD+ box plus setup for £49.50 so she took it whilst she was on the line.
