I do venture here and there and I have spat my dummy out a few times on other boards. Each to there own and I generally post on here and the OS board. Read the other boards and get wound up so try not to ;).

"MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families" is quite huggy. The "house price" sub-board is full of people trading insults. I'm quite happy on most of them, but my persona changes depending on where I post! Does that make me a bit schizophrenic?!

It is depressing when you get slagged off after trying to post helpful comments, but you have to remember that some people on these boards are sad, lonely and very unsure of themselves.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

and one person's helpful comment is another persons personal attack.
  • I'm sorry but she has a point - some one only asked about how to get rid of clover in the lawn and it all went pearshaped. !!

  • Sorry to butt in on your conversation but what bothers me about 'those' sort of people (getting called smuggers now on the other board by the way!:D) is how many posts they have! Why are these bullys still allowed to use the site? I would have thought that if they had been caught abusing other users a lot they would have been banned from the site? What makes it even worse is they seem to 'hang around' in groups thanking each other everytime someone takes the bait...why is Martin and his team allowing it to happen?

Very good point, perhaps they are not being reported enough?

Personally I think that the DFW's are not all that huggy. They are just looking at it from the opposite perspective.

In other boards people jump down your throat and are nasty about certain things.

In DFW that certain thing is a perceived lack of sensitivity. The wrong sort of helpfulness, a suggestion or a recommendation not phrased in the approved language of hugginess will get you every bit as torn to shreds as comments which break the etiquette rules of the other boards.

I'm feeling a bit jaded and fed up at the moment :(

I like to think people are basically nice and will try and help if they feel able. Events around me recently seem to show the opposite, that people only care about themselves and perhaps their immediate family.

When I feel like this I like to amble along to this board and see what people are prepared to do to help friends and strangers for nothing more than a desire to make someone else's life better.

It never fails to remind me of how kind people can be.
