I was dubious after reading this post but went to the Stevenage one the other day after coming out of GS and not being happy with what they offered. I bought the kids Singstar and a dancemat game and took a couple of Wii games in that we don't play with (including Rockband or something which cost me £5 and I got £8 for it!) and gt 3 dancemat games and the rest as store credit. They were giving much more store credit than the other stores but some of the Wii games were well overpriced. That being said the GBA games that were unboxed were £2 each yet go over the road to Gamestation and they are £12 each.

But I do not think I'd use them to buy a lot else, just games.

CEX are a bit of an enigma. I remember them being around well over 10 years now.

I'd say (without any axe to grind) that the majority of their electronic stuff is mildly to wildly overpriced especially given that it is s/hand.

However having said that you can find the odd bargain from time to time especially for older, less popular or specialist items. I've gotten a few such bargains over the years. They have a very good selection of DVDs at reasonable prices - I buy most of my boxsets there. The video games tend to be overpriced - especially the Wii and DS ones IMHO.

I can't comment on the trade-in prices as I've never really gone this route. They do offer a higher rate if you trade in for a voucher rather than cold hard cash :)

Note that you should thoroughly test electonrc stuff you buy from the store as soon as possible, as after a short period (2 days I believe) they will only offer you the option of an exchange or voucher as opposed to a refund. The t&cs for orders via their website may be different due to the Distance Selling Regulations.

Has anyone having problems with CEX recently, sold multiple things to them online, sent them recorded and have had confirmation that they have received them both via royal mail and their customer services department, but they still have not tested my goods 2 months after sending.

I've mailed them multiple times and each time they tell me they have my goods and that they will be tested soon.

Anyone got any idea what i could do to move things along?

cex are reknowned to have poor customer service online - why not try emailing them on their wecare email address - or post on their forums which is full of people asking for contact details..

alternatively in the future, i recommend using https://www.tradeyourstuff.co.uk for your games and consoles trade-in

Has anyone bought a mobile phone from CEX and what has your experience been like. Also what phone was it.

Does anyone work for CEX, any tips or info?
  • Hi there, I work for CEX and will help you as much as I can.

I've gotta say, there seems to be a great deal of hate for CEX and I just don't understand it. Other than the terrible music, (the Leeds store, which I work at is actually not that bad), most of the "complaints" and "downsides" of CEX are by products of the customer.

    - Boohoo there's no cash.
To bad, blame everyone around you in the shop, it's their fault for not purchasing goods. Company owned retailers run entirely from sales revenue, they cannot run to the bank to buy your phone etc.

    - The shop smells.
Actually take a good look around you and use your nose, its the people beside you.

    - Games are overprices compared to other retailers.
The difference with CEX is that they don't to offers, we aim to keep prices consistently low. There is a good reason why brand new, in demand games cost so much, and its simply down to attract people so sell their copy and retain stock levels until we can reduce the price.
At the end of the day what you forget is that we ALWAYS want people to trade in things, it keeps the business alive. We also give the highest exchange rates around, so it actually balances out properly.

    - Exchange/Cash price isn't good enough.
There's a real big fat massive difference in perceived value and real value of products, and the average customer knows !!!! all. No offense, but its proved over and over.

I find it hilarious that people complain about perceived grade and condition of items and also about the fact that the shop isn't to their liking because CEX's prices aren't fair enough. You are not forced to sell your items to CEX.

I'm quite happy to sit here and type away to defend CEX, because you have had bad experiences all day. I won't let !!!!, renegade staff that don't care at all ruin it. And if you guys are confused at anything or annoyed, perhaps wanna ask me a few questions or even quiz me, go ahead.

The Leeds store on the Headrow is absolutely fantastic for customer service. But if any sour people come in the store acting up, being rude, no your not going to get anywhere. Nice, honest people, who don't try and !!!! the store over get what they want and deserve.

    Need anything? Holla!

I think "hate" is a bit strong, but if you read their forums (from when this thread first surfaced),they didn't do themselves any favours did they? I suspect they are also one of those companys who brainwash some of their staff,as to how great they are.

That kind of confirms why there are nine pages worth of posts complaining about your company. Staff are rude and aggressive and forget that they work in a CUSTOMER SERVICE environment, where its their job to help CUSTOMERS.

It also makes me laugh when staff in shops forget that its actually the customers that pay their wages, by continuing to shop in their stores.

No one is saying the customer is always right but if nine pages worth of complaints about one company, doesnt confirm that your store policy/staff training policy has serious flaws then I dont know what will.

Any shop that refuses to publish any kind of phone contact on their site, either has something to hide or doesnt like making money. I was going to buy from your store but as I cant even contact you to find out if the item on your site, is correct I wont do so.

I personally have better things to do that run about because CEX as a company cant be bothered to fullfill customer queries properly.

I am sure that as retail is such a bad sector at the moment and companies are losing money hand over fist, that many other reputable shops will be happy to take my money.

Has anybody sold to Cex online lately and if so, did you get your money OK? I sold a mobile phone a few months ago and the cheques kept bouncing, is this all sorted now?
