I've been to a few stores that do that and it works really well in busiers stores, and tbh i dont know why it isn't done in more stores. No point in my store cos it's one of the smaller, quieter ones.
Some shops do that - but we're not allowed to as people automatically don't go in if they're wanting cash, but once they're at the counter quite a lot of them will take store credit instead.
someone posted on the cex.co.uk forums about that too, not quite a rumour but not 100% true, things did happen but that was back in July and it's all sorted now.
I agree - have a look at the forums, it is only a tiny number of complaints compared to the amount of online bsiness we do, but it still seems to be a bit disorganised at times. better trying in your local store.
stop trying to big up the company cause you work for them your on every forum trying make cex look good when in reality there rip off merchants , cex is expensive secondhand items, GOOD TRADE PRICES MIGHT BE GOT BUT ONLY BECAUSE YOU ADD THE EXTRA ON THE ITEMS YOU SELL,
also why do you need to show receipts after selling so many items, utter ridiculous shop. i was in gamestation the other saturday absolute chockablock cex across the road, empty tills and customers just browsing not buying.
CEX will go the same way as woolworths no doubt, i bet even there dvd's are cheaper then cex's secondhand car boot sourced scratched as hell ones
even 1 of the girls where i traded in a copy of the sims did not put it thru the till ,reckon whe kept it for herself to trade in lmfao. wish i would of said something now but didn't bother as its was only about 60p trade in price or someat.0 -
How the hell do I get in touch with them regarding a refund on an online order they failed to deliver, they are not responding to my emails any more0

I hate cex. completely incompetent in the luton store. I bought a cd by Bush, that had the wrong label on the case - the guy put the cd matching the label in the case. I checked the cd as I thought this might happen, and went back to the counter to point out the error.
The girl who then served me decided that she would have to "refund this cd, so you need to become a member, have you got any id on you?" er, excuse me, I need to give you my details, because you messed up? "um, yes, that's the only way we can do this"
After some ten minutes dithering as the girl couldn't grasp the concept of the A-Z filing system behind her, let alone the computer system, some other bloke (supervisor? manager?) then pointed out that she didn't need to do that, just give me the proper cd - there, done. Finally. I'm not usually this patient, but I really wanted the cd!
So I got home and the next day went to play the cd to see if it had a song I was after. Looked at the tracklisting and realised, um, this is the wrong cd! Right band, wrong cd!
So I happened to be in town next day and went in to look for the case for the cd I was now in possession of. Picked it up and spent five minutes explaining that they needed to sell me the cd for the case I had at home.. unfortunately I got home and realised they had again sold me the wrong cd. Right band though. I give up now, I'm going to have to get the other cd off ebay! Even though the case for the other album is sitting on the shelf in the shop, and the person that picks it up is (possibly) going to end up with the wrong cd in it.
the moral of the story is - always check your goods before leaving the store!
do cex staff not have to pass a basic literacy test then?0 -
merryxmas everyone - lets hope we dont have to take some unwanted presents ie games over to cex and go in to the sweaty smelly stores - stick with the cleaner way of doing things and sell them on ebay/amazon or to gamemagpie or tradeyourstuff.co.uk!!0

I work in a 2nd hand store.
Everyday we got 20 odd customers with their goods, " CEX offered me this......"
But guess what no money! An offer is worthless unless you have the cash to do the deal. It's insulting to their customers.
The prices they offer are more than what we sell our goods on for!0 -
I took a "fully working" SONY PlayStation 2 into their Manchester Arndale branch today at 9.40am.
I was told they would test it and should come back into the store at around 2pm. I was then given a receipt for when I return.
So, I went back in, produced the receipt and they went to find my item. They bought it back and said they would not accept on trade as it was broken.
So, whilst leaving the item in their care to test, it has been damaged and now I am left with a faulty item.
Anywhere else that do trade in on these kinds of items (Gamestation, Cash Generators et al) all test the item in FRONT OF YOU, at the till. At least then you know that if it's faulty, it was faulty when you took it in.
I'm left rather dismayed and angry that something I knew to be working is now broken, and all because it was left in this companies possesion.
Is there anyway I can complain or someone that I can write too??
I hope this acts as a warning to people that may be thinking of trading in what could possibly be a more expensive item, like an Xbox 360 or PS3!!0 -
Quite shocked at some of these comments. I have purchased products from CEX online and in their Birmingham and Dudley stores with no problem (quick free delivery too) and at the cheapest i could find. I have also sold around £60 of stuff to them in the past few months at the best prices i could find. (including Professor Layton DS Game i brought from Ebay for £18 before it was released, completed it and i was shocked when they gave be £32 for it!!!) :-)
Suppose it depends where you go - theyre normally quite friendly in my 2 local stores. They have once told me they had no cash to trade with me but it was about 10am and they had just brought about 8 games off a dodgy looking couple...0 -

Are you sure it's the PS2 you gave them originally? :eek:0 -

also once you do that the system will drop the price of said item
can't you just trade in 9 1 day, and go back the next and trade in another 9?
I've heard stories about some cex staff opening consoles and removing valuable, working bits.
If I went to gamestation and said cex would offer me £177 trade in for these 9 items(with proof), will gamestation offer me £186 trade in if they are in the same town?0 -
cex have poor customer service, I have sold many stuff there though, they offer the best prices... thats if they actually buy them because most of the time they arent taking stuff for cash, only exchanges..
I am on my way there tomorrow morning at opening time, I am going to try and sell them my psp with some games, will tell you all how it goes...
I know gamestatino buy stuff too but they offer so little money compared to cex0
