  • very shocking all of this!

Cex arent that bad when you go into one of their stores - good prices for trading in, not bad for cash if they are willing to give it to you that day!

Online - however is awful - ive bought three ganes from them, only one arrived scratched to pieces about 3 weeks after making the order and 4 unanswered emails. Selling games to them takes weeks to get your money.
    Lessons learnt.

Ive decided to take a different approach:
All offline purchases/selling of games - i do at gamestation or cex.

All online i use www.tradeyourstuff.co.uk - theyve paid me quickly and a lot of us on the up your income board use them now. Plus i just buy from amazon or ebay as its cheaper!

    Forget about cex online!
  • right been a customer for cex for the last 2 years until now i thought i would reply

the shop has gone very downhill lately, price are expensive for secondhand items, sbk superbikes for 360 £32 when i boguht it yesterday for £19.99p new in game??.

ive stopped going basically because last time i went into the local hull branch they said i would need receipts to exchange any games i trade in, as i got quite a lot of kingkong and others in a joblot i bought on ebay that i wanted rid of. i felt treated like a criminal when i had used my own money to buy the goods i traded in they were only excess items i did not want because i bought the lot for items i did want. cex always think there right and the customers wrong working in retail myself i can tell you this is not the case.
customer service is terrible, 1 of the girls in there is so snooty in there.

i think the company will go into administration before long, i really don't know how they keep going, i have bought numorous items from cex aswell which have been damaged

2 gamecube games leog starwars and spyro(both cracked)

a dvd( on this occasion the dvd was cracked i inspected the disk before i went home and took it back the staff memeber said just try it see if it works then bring it back it was so badly cracked it would not of played no matter how much you tryed (ive thrown better dvd's in the bin)

a samsung phone which has a travel adaptor instead of the original LOL
im sure theres 1 or 2 others i will have bought

blockbusters offer quite good trade in prices on some stuff so i tend to go there now.

How come I've bought in 4 laptops and several consoles this week alone? Yes we may not have cash in the mornings due to banking, but by the afternoon most stores are buying at full capacity

probably because you're a manager and can magic cash out of nowhere when it comes to things you want to sell.

I know for a fact that even in my local store on a ridiculous number of afternoons I've been in there, they will still not be buying for cash.

A very simple couple of ways to improve CEX would be - 1) all stores to have seperate queues for buying, people actually wanting to just buy a dvd / game and pay in cash, and another queue for anyone who is stupid enough to want to buy anything else from CEX / with cash or a card. + 2) put a sign up next to the front door when you're not buying / for cash!

    ps -

    - you are having a laugh, right? After all you've read on here? Have you looked at the CEX forum itself?!

You should try again now - we've been ordered to stop banking and of last week and spend every penny we can on buying again, haven't turned away a single item all week - it's been great.

I've been to a few stores that do that and it works really well in busiers stores, and tbh i dont know why it isn't done in more stores. No point in my store cos it's one of the smaller, quieter ones.
    2) put a sign up next to the front door when you're not buying / for cash

Some shops do that - but we're not allowed to as people automatically don't go in if they're wanting cash, but once they're at the counter quite a lot of them will take store credit instead.

someone posted on the cex.co.uk forums about that too, not quite a rumour but not 100% true, things did happen but that was back in July and it's all sorted now.

I agree - have a look at the forums, it is only a tiny number of complaints compared to the amount of online bsiness we do, but it still seems to be a bit disorganised at times. better trying in your local store.

I still want to trade my iPod In!

Do they do a courier service?
    Can anyone confirm this??
  • I finally got a cheque and the funds have cleared, Maybe if you have a high level of patience then CeX is OK but for me it was a long drawn out affair and I would hesitate to use them again any time soon.

  • The Liverpool city centre store is ok; I got some good CDs and got rid of a lot, although the guy who seemed to be the manager was really rude and actually dishonest about some things. The sales assistants were all really nice though.
  • CEX is very good, they give yo umore money and credit then any mother store... However they are out of cash most of the time so you have to be lucky if you want to sell something for cash
