    Hi all

Had a lazy old day - it was a bank holiday in N.Ireland, and amazingly the weather was good!! Got no job hunting done as the agencies and everything else were shut. Marie - I think that's why there were so many northern accents down your way recently. This is the main holiday season up here and there tends to be a mass exodus. Mind you in Newry you'd think you were in north Dublin as so many Dubliners drive up to shop. Newry - particularly around Sainsbury's - is in constant gridlock because of the fab rate of the Euro against the pound. (A bit sh!te for us going South or to Europe though!)

Celyn - there's no reason on earth why you have to tell your new GP that your ex was a doctor!! His occupation has no relevance - you only have to talk about your point of view. I don't see why they would even consider an unknown third party's comments - wouldn't it be irresponsible and foolhardy if your ex's opinion had some bearing on the assessment/diagnosis/advice they give to you? I think you should go ahead and register with this GP and get the assistance you are entitled to. Also, you could mention that you would prefer to see a fully qualified GP rather than someone still on their GP training.

Susey Sue - wow 91%! You are a right clever clogs!! As for Pink-winged, she's sunning herself in France. Haribo was away on holiday but she's back now - think we need to organise a search party.

Need to go and top up my beauty sleep now.

    Bye

    Snowy

Been a bit busy lately, got a 3-night deal (3 nights for the price of 2) at the Innkeepers' Lodge in Liverpool, that was the first weekend in July. Went to my brother's wedding at midday and then the party at their house later that afternoon.

He has been really gentlemanly and considerate - given that they have 2 grown-up children, youngest is 18, one might think 'why did they bother'? Well, it was mainly him, thinking about the future, what would happen to her if he died - and as he pointed out, we are not a long-lived family - now they're legally wed she can inherit his pension (which I believe is a very good one!) and also the IHT problem will be sorted out. They live in a 3-storey Victorian house in Liverpool.

We did some sightseeing while we were there - went to the National Wildflower Centre, went on the Mersey Ferry, visited both cathedrals - cathedral eucharist in the Anglican cathedral on Sunday morning.

Now we're back and I have sorted out my course with the OU. I've registered for a second-level course in environmental studies - I don't need a first level as I already have 2 OU foundation courses from way back and have done university-level study before, so can go straight on to second level.

I'm also still involved with the English Companions, who study the period of history 450 - 1077 AD i.e. the Anglo-Saxon period of history. A local group has been set up studying the language, meeting in a pub near the site of the Battle of Benfleet 893 AD - the pub is on the site of the battle.

We're looking forward to going on holiday the first fortnight in September, crossing the North Sea Harwich - Hook of Holland then driving up the Rhine valley maybe as far as the Bodensee (Lake Constance). Maybe!
