For anyone who has Home Bargains, the most fantastic store on the planet near to them,:D I went in yesterday and they had many silicon utensils and other products all around the 99p to £1.99 mark. Including individual cake cases.

Any way they also have silicon oven gloves and a silicon hand thing which is like a ducks beak shape that you slip over your hand in order to take hot things from the oven or I thought Remoska.;)

I also bought a silicon whisk which I thought would be useful for stirring stuff up without sratching the base.

I can't read through the whole thread again but I seem to remember someone mentioning that their Remoska sometimes tripped out their electricity. Ours did that this morning whilst DH was trying to clean the lid! He had just switched it on to warm it up for a minute (!) and trying to clean it when pfft.. all the electricity went off.

I didn't know whether to ring Lakeland to ask about the marks on the lid anyway which are getting worse and to mention about this problem.

I am nervous if it happens again as it caused chaos with all the clocks going off and our phone doesn't work when the electricity is off and I was waiting for the doctor to ring just at that moment.

The Lakekand guarantee is that if you are unhappy with any product at any time you can get your money back so if you want a refund you will get one and they will arrange collection. They guarantee good customer service - what they can't do (and this is obvious from reading the responses to the Remoska reviews on the website) is guarantee that they can fix all the problems and ultimately you have to decide whether the pros outweigh the cons.

A few of us here have experienced the shorting of our electrical circuits and Lakeland's advice has been that this can happen if moisture gets into the lid.

    On the website here:

    http://www.lakeland.co.uk/standard-remoska!REG-electric-cooker/F/C/cooking-baking/C/cooking-baking-pots-pans/C/pots-pans-remoska/product/2511

it says (third review down as of today):

Sometimes the moisture might get into the lid. We suggest to unscrew the screws on the lid and leave it to dry out for few days properly before using it again. Try to keep the lid in cool and dry place.

Personally I'd probably get a refund if mine kept tripping the circuit as I don't think it is worth the hassle of unscrewing things and leaving it for days on end... but so far it has only happened once so I'm keeping mine.
  • The bread recipe that I use, which I am almost sure is Mrs. M's, is:

    500g bread flour
14g fresh yeast (but I use about 5g dried)
3 tsp salt (I use a bit less)
    300ml water

and I sometimes add about 1 Tbs oil if I think that it might last more than a day (to help keep it a bit more moist). I make the dough my BM then put it into the standard remoska as a sort of flattish square and it turns into a big round boule. After about 15 mins or so I cover it with a circle of foil with a hole cut in the middle. It takes about 30 to 35 minuts in mine.
  • Hi

I don't wish to crash the party with buckets of cold water, but FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, this is NONSENSE.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, should anyone take apart ANY electrical appliance, unless a qualified electrician (which is why everything now all come with a fitted three pin plug! Ever thought why?). It should be returned to the retailer for a refund/replacement. In this case Lakeland, who have a no quibble return/replacement guarantee. What's the problem... return it!
DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON WEBSITES. I can't believe Lakleand's official line is "oh just take it apart yourself..." c'mon.. Why do they have a return policy?! Have you actually spoken to them or taken all this at/on second hand web nonsense? What happens if you take it apart, it then 'blows up', sets fire to your switchborad/kitchen/house... who's fault is it then...? Got household insurance... wont be valid! Will you own up?
If the electrics on a Remoska is such a problem then by returning faulty items to Lakeland they know the extent of the problem and maybe something would be done about it. They keep selling them!
However, I know of people switching on a lightswitch, i.e an ordinary lightbulb, it blowing, blowing out the 'fusebox' and the whole house plunging into darkness... on a lightbulb! The NEW ELECTRIC FUSEBOARDS seem to be a problem in some places! They are TOOO sensitive now!
Do you know it is really the Remoska??? If so, return it. I know people switch on every appliance in the house/camp site and then switch on the Remoska, and of course it is the Remoska's fault... it might be... it might of course also be something else, have you checked EVERY appliance switched on? Taking all them apart too? I also know people, though well meaning, don't always get it right or post accurate information! Anyone can say anything on a blog or forum.. like me. Maybe this is all nonsense!
WOTEVER – for what it is worth, unless you are a qualified electrician return it to Lakeland. :p Conversely carry on and take it apart!
What is this, moneysaving expert of free electrical advice line?;) Don't electrocute yourself under any circumstances!

Last night in mine I made a coffee fudge sponge pudding. I used:
    4oz butter
    6oz soft brown sugar
    1 beaten egg
    3 tbsp coffee essence
    4oz SRF
    1/4 pt milk

I creamed the butter with 4oz of the sugar until light and fluffy, then added the egg and coffee essence. It did curdle slightly so I added some of the flour. I then folded in the rest of the flour.
In a separate jug, I mixed the other 2oz of sugar with the milk and poured this over the sponge mix.
Bake for about 25-30 mins and it turns out as a lovely sponge on top and coffee sauce at the bottom. I would say this is enough to feed about 4 people as there are only the 2 of us and there is enough left over for tonight.

We bought the small Remoska a few years ago, for our caravan. Bit of an impulse buy while we were in the Lake District. I don't actually DO a lot of cooking in the caravan....lol, and while I found it was great for heating up pies etc, like you would do in the normal oven... I felt I was not getting the full use of it for the price, so I started using it more often in the house. My problem was trying to figure out what to cook in it! However, I just figured it was like a normal cooker....so I just used it for everything, shepherds pie, chicken pieces in sauce, curry, and soup. It's pretty fool proof as it only has one switch - on and off - :rotfl:but I do find veg like carrots and swede never soften as nicely as they do when braised in the oven or slow cooker.

I do like it....but if I have to be honest, I would say, it is a bit of a uneccessary addition to the kitchen if you already have a cooker, a casserole dish or a slow cooker. I think I was sold on the hype of it, which made me think food would just taste so different, or be better cooked. It really isn't! You are not suddenly going to turn out amazing food because it has been cooked in the Remoska.

It would be a great buy for a pensioner who does not want to use a huge oven to heat up a ready meal or make a sponge cake...but it won't be THAT much use to you if you are cooking for a big family. (Unless you have no room for the Yorkshire puds in your oven - it heats them up a treat :p)

My hubbie is now doing renovation work in an old building, and he has taken the Remoska to heat up his lunch. It is better than a microwave - small round pies, sausage rolls etc are crispy not soggy - - but I really think, from my experience this is the only advantage it has over the microwave.

It's just a tiny cooker! Do you really need another one in your kitchen.....?
    Life.

    Bring it on! :j

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I do know it was the Remoska that did it as we weren't doing anything else at the time. It did only do it the once but I am a bit nervous now. I don't fancy unscrewing the lid and all that, because of making matters worse, apart from the fact that we use it just about everyday. I cleaned the oven today and it's so bright and shiny, I have no intention of using it again!

I might just ring Lakeland and ask the question, see what they have to say. [STRIKE]We[/STRIKE] I have been planning to have a ride up to Windermere and have a look if there's any bargains in shallow pans.....
