Has anyone tried Twink's Hobnobs in the Remoska yet?

Just got a ginger and lemon cake in mine, smells divine! Also made a chocolate cake this morning which turned out fine too. It is much lighter than if it was cooked in my fan oven.
  • I tried these recently and they came out fine. I used half the quantity of ingredients as there are only 2 of us - it still made 30 small biscuits. I put little balls of mixture round the edge of the pan about 3 or 4cm apart and pressed them down a bit with a fork. I also put some in the middle to see if there was an appreciable difference in cooking time between the outside and inside ones.

Left them for 15 minutes then watched them for a couple more minutes until they were the right colour. The mix was too big to make the whole (half) batch so I did it in two lots. Watch out on the second batch as they cook a lot quicker as the Remoska is already hot - so my second lot are a bit browner than I like but still fine to eat.

Making the whole recipe would take about 4 goes I think but would still probably be cheaper than preheating the oven and cooking them all in one batch because of the wattage difference.

Above is for a grand using the regular pan - I would have used the shallow pan to speed the process up but it had a pizza base in it at the time!

PS Thanks to Twink of course for the original recipe

  • Forgot to say I used a magic liner - I use it all the time.

Thanks Lizzyb1812. I had wondered about using the moski cause I knew you would have to do them in batches while I can do the whole lot at once in the fan oven.

    Thanks for the replies.

I was too impatient to wait for any replies so decided to try them anyway and report back. I made half a batch and did them in a tray on top of the rack. Again had to do them in 2 lots and agree that the 2nd lot cook quicker. The first lot took about 20 minutes. Just eaten some after lunch, delicious as always. Will now be doing them in Moska unless I need to make the full amount which I don't often as there are only the 2 of us at home now. I also use a Grand.
  • Help !!!

My OH has decided she wants roast chicken for dinner & I've arsed just about everything up (she normally does most of this cooking malarkey but is lazing around all day with the spurious excuse that she's having a baby tmorro or some such nonsense) ... I went to Tesco & bought a chicken (free range, organic too ... and only £3.68 ... so I thought ... turns out it was £3.68 a pound or something & I've just spent nearly ten quid on a bleedin' chicken ... much hilarity from OH)

Anyway the damn thing is bigger than I thought & its nearly touching the glass window ... do I need to do anything other than keep an eye on it ??

And why's there no recipe in the Remoska book for roast chicken ?? That's what I want to know as the sweat drips down my fevered brow ... how long does it need per pound ??

Please someone help. OH is just lying on the settee eating thorntons choccies, reading OK & being no use whatever ...
  • Hi zappster1966, I would say 20 mins per pound (or 500g in new money) plus 20 mins. I did this and it was good. Can you squah the chicken down a bit? I have been known to get on the back doorstep with an axe to chop a turkey leg down so it will fit in my slow cooker before today so anything is possible! If all else fails just cut it into pieces and cook it.Let us know how you get on :)

I've just done a yorkshire pud for the first time in my remoska and it was gorgeous! I used 40z flour, 2 eggs and 200mls milke but next time will halve the quantities as it was rising up the pan while I was watching it! I couldn't believe it! Anyway there was too much mixture and I reckon it will be better for my standard with 2oz flour. Best yorkshires I've ever made and I've tried every trick in the book for years so well chuffed :)

  • Oh your Yorkies sound tremendous ... mm ... covered in lashings of gravy n onion ... mm. I'm gunna try that next week ... dumb question maybe but is it self raising or plain ? I asked OH and she just started laughing lol.

Thank you for your advice about the timings, yeah 20 + 20 I remember that from my student days

My chicken has started growing inside the Remoska, it's now defo touching the glass, I've battered the thing with the end of the rolling pin and stuck some tinfoil on it. It's starting to go brown now, I'll just need to keep an eye on it.

Yeah baby's due tmorro seemingly. OH is 8 days past her date & is being induced. She so won't be laughing tmorro mwuahahahaha.

good luck with the sprog! By the way I don;t think you will be laughing too much tom either. us girlies have amazing super power strength when in labour. You will need to rest your fingers for quite some time afterwards!!
