  • Hi

I have just spent 1 hour on the phone cancelling my 3 contract. They have agreed to the cancellation and send they would text the pac number. They would not give me one over the phone. Pac code has not yet been texted, did anyone else get theres by text? I'm wondering whether I have just been fobbed off. Please advise as I don't want to have to phone up again if I can help.

  • Well i decided to ring 3 back today, after they put me on hold on Sunday. I managed to get through to someone who was ENGLISH!!

I said i was phoning about the letter i sent recently, to terminate my contract. He said that i can't do it immediately, got to wait for my contract ends in 3 months time. DOH! "Have you read my letter", i said. He put me on hold for a few mins while he read it.

He tried to get me to stay by saying that all other operators charge minimum 1 minute, but i said that's besides the point - it's not what i signed up for when i joined 3 in June 2007.

I mentioned that i was going to go to O2's current offer of £20/mth for 600 mins + 1000 texts + free unlimited web (or whatever bolt-on you want).

And now for the hilarious bit... he said that O2's GPRS was a bit rubbish, and besides, i'd have to get my phone unlocked, and when i start to use O2's sim in my 3 phone, both the new sim and the phone would be fried within 6 months, due to some signal being different on GPRS or something!! Hahahahaha :rotfl:

At that point i burst out laughing, and told him that he won't be able to change my mind and i definately want to leave. He said he'd start the 30 day notice right now, and cancel the contract for FREE. But i said no good, they received my letter giving 30 days notice 10 days ago, so i want to end it in 20 days time.

He said he couldn't do that, and would have to put me through to customer services (which is the number i've just bloody rang!!!). He then said goodbye and hung up the phone

I'm going to ring back soon, but not looking forward to telling some Indian what i've just written above.

Where does it say in my contract that I am required to have an internet connection, and monitor changes to my contract on their website?

Exactly, it doesn't, hence this notification letter is 10 months too late.

And if it did I think it would be classed as an unreasonable contract condition.
Precisely! I cannot see how the regulator could approve that. What she suggested to me was that someone without an internet connection should call up and request a copy of t&cs, so presumably would have to instinctively know when they had changed!
  • Hi, panic over my text with the pac code has just come through :j

.. or .. be someone who calls in every month to request a copy of the T's & C's, sits there and reads them and thinks "Ok, phew! No changes this month!".

Of course the regulator is going to approve the changes - it's a commercial decision, they aren't breaking any law.

How they notify their customers is a different thing entirely - i would suggest that there isn't any sort of rules or guidelines in place from otelo or ofcom to cover this, so 3 are free to do it however they want to.

if i had more money than sense (or any money for that matter..) i'd be down the solicitors tomorrow - i really would.

Speaking of solicitors, most of them hold free 'clinics', at which anyone can attend for advice. What say one of us goes to one?

    "You was upgrade" ?

do you mean you upgraded your video talk and text ?

or did you take out a new contract on a different tariff ?

what contract are you on now ?
  • I'll second that request as well :)
    Here's how I did it.

I phoned 333, spoke to the "if you're thinking of leaving 3" department. Spoke to an advisor, told him about the DD charge going up, and how from next month I would not be wanting to pay by DD because of changing my bank account to one that would not do DD...

...he said I could pay in a 3 store for free. I told him this was not acceptable, asked to speak to a supervisor. Was told the supervisor was busy. I insisted and suddenly he had become free.

I told him the position, he said he did not know what to do but would find out.

Got a voicemail from him the next day asking me to call the Glasgow exec office.

Called them, they issued the pac code there and then.

    Done.
  • thanks for that bill - funnily enough, considering everything i've done with 3 so far, the DD reason probably does apply to me more than that because i have actually switched to a basic bank account recently ...
