Ive only just found about about this. I have 2 contract with 3, talk and text 600, which i took out in july 2007. I did not receive a letter from 3 and I dont use my 2x3 contracts, hence didnt get a text message. Just called them and they basically told me that the offer to cancel expired end of september and there was nothing I could do. So I guess this boat sailed a long time ago!0

I have a slightly different angle to this sneaky extra charge for itemised billing. I'm a mobile broadband only customer (I use one of those dongles plugged into my laptop to surf the web). I don't have a mobile phone from Three. They have only just (October 21st) introduced the paper billing charge for broadband customers. I found out today because it was on my latest bill. I did not get any advance notice of this change to the T&Cs. When I called Customer Service I was told that customers were sent letters (not me) and also were sent text messages (again not me - as I don't have a mobile phone, only a modem for my Mac laptop) - I don't get text messages.
What's odd is that I can still have a paper bill, with a summary rather than itemisation, for free. Charging for itemisation, rather than paper, seems to miss the point - it neither saves paper, administration, postage nor is it any more friendly to the environment.
And sneaking in the charge without telling anyone is not very friendly to the customer.
To make up for this mess, the lady from C/S said she would request a refund of the billing charge for me because they failed to inform me. They'd also switch me over to online billing to save me the charge in future. And - get this - they'd send me a little text message every month to let me know that my ebill is available online! I CAN'T GET TEXT MESSAGES - I DON'T HAVE A MOBILE.
Grrrrrrrrr!0 -
Stv67 - I think you can get texts via your dongle. They're shown in the messages part of the dashboard. I'm not condoning what '3' have done, just clarifying what they will say to you.0

I've had my report back from OTELO guys. Not good news. Basically said that they were well within their rights to change terms without telling us, that it was unreasonable to expect all the changes in terms to be read out to the customer at the point of sale (i.e. when I upgraded), and that the cooling off period after upgrade was there for me to look through the terms online and change my mind if I desired.
So there we have it. I am still in 2 minds as to what to do next, but I'll probably just have to back down. Uncaring multinational wins again.0 -

Thanks Chuffy. You are sort of right. If you have a Windows PC then you get an extra piece of software to check on your usage (to make sure you are not downloading more than you are meant to, for example). However, if, like me, you have an Apple Mac, Three don't provide you with this "dashboard"; it's for Windows only. So the itemised billing is all the more important to me - it's the only way I can find out what I have used.
Also, I think if you have a Windows PC you can get (or certainly send) text messages but, once again, if you happen to be a Mac user then three leave you out of this party too!
In short, Three give you less of a service on a Mac but charge you the same (and now, want to increase that charge whilst taking away a service!).0 -

You can check usage here: https://my3.three.co.uk/mylogin/
It's very accurate, pretty much to the minute.0 -
Having said that, they send you a text to verify you are the user of the SIM - Hmmm, kills my point stone dead.0
