OS Daily for Saturday 12th July 2008

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
HI - I'm just saying 'hello' at the moment because I've typed two posts and each one of them has disappeared. Do you think MSE is throwing me out because I talk too much?!
Will submit this and see if it stays here!

Morning M - you just beat me to it, see you are M-ing as I type.
Apologies have just not got on the last day or two, time just seems to slip by:o , especially when trying to update anything with a dial up connection! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to all those missed:T . I hope Rzl is having a great time drooling over her opera singer in France.
Big Gentle Hugs :grouphug: Everyone :grouphug: especially those not well, or family members not well.
Been having a saga with broadband connection/email as I had a broadband connection via BT Business supplied by work, which I left at the end of last June, they had not switched me off (well I was going to complain wasn't I), tried to sort out a new one with TalkTalk last December/January when they said it was now Free BB, then it wasn't until July, so left it pending and got some pennies back in May, but just before I came out here BT died, not work hadn't switched me off, but hadn't paid a Bill! The place is closing down and minimal staff and ones who paid the bills normally had left. So asked to close the Broadband account with BT and just left me with the email address which I could dial in on - perfectly allowable, but wouldn't do much while bill outstanding, I had no authority to get it paid:cool: (too embarrassed to say - hey guys pay my bill:o ). Long and short of it was no emails from that source for 5-6 weeks until Wednesday/Thurdays - you can see how long they took to download. BT now have released the line and email access, of course, the day after I had given up hope and started sending emails to everyone advising them to change my contact mail, its been like pulling teeth:eek: back to Talk-Talk and thankfully good "retentions" staff and have 3 months free as a gesture of good will, and three months at their reduced intro rate, and should be on real Free BB by September. They keep telling me the equipment in our exchange has to be updated, but I keep telling them two others at least on our street have Free BB with them. I am on one of the original numbers, but they are on the newer range of numbers, so must be two lots of equipment in our exchange.
I'm getting worse than you now M so better get off.
Take care all - DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Now it worked that time! Hi Donny-Gal - good to have you back; I missed you yesterday!
Anyway, (((hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Mrs Mix (how's the earache?), Candygirl's Dad, Beth's DBs, AnnieStar and all who are in need this morning.
Well, my peace and quiet comes to an end at around 10.30 this evening when DH comes back from France. I'm looking forward to seeing him but not his laundry! I need to give the house a bit of a going-over with the hoover and duster. I should also make some cakes - I haven't bothered while I've been on my own. I also want to do another meal-plan - I tend to stick to the same meals on a sort of loop and keep meaning to try a bit more variety; I shall study the other threads and see what I can come up with. I want to get costs down even more, if I can, because I think this winter is going to be quite hard with all the rising prices.
The sun is beaming here at the moment. For the first time in days, the sky is blue with just little white clouds in it - I hope it last for a while.
Well, I'm off for another cuppa then a shower. See you all later.

Little toad's bum is odd at the moment so we're going through nappies at the rate of stink (literally). Poor mite. Hoping she's better today.
OH has done the washing up again. Yey. Finally all the blackcurrants are in the freezer. Just have a stack of fresh garden peas to sort out and then finally some broadbeans. Just have one minor problem...freezer is full.
Thanks to OH. Last night he brought home some indian ready meals that his work were selling off for a quid for a box of 6. He brought home 12 meals in total. Now normally I wouldn't go for this sort of thing...but at this price. Now I have a little stash in my freezer. And my mum's freezer has been hijacked to store the rest.
Washing is in. Don't know if it'll get on the line today (looking dodgy outside), but it needed doing.
Tea is pizza, salad, garlic bread and maybe a few chips (got to get some space in my freezer). There's a half eaten tub of ice cream as well that could be eaten up.
Here's me trying to empty the freezer and then lots of people manage to over fill it. Not that I'm complaining. Free food is always welcome.
Little toad still screams blue murder when I take her out of the play house at toddlers. Think I'm going to have to find us one. Turning out to be harder than I thought. Can't seem to find a reasonably cheap one. Suppose I'll just have to keep looking.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
Morning Donny and Mioliere and all who follow!
am off to work now for a 10 hour shift! had a very restless night - DS1 was very late getting in(2.30am) then he woke us to say he'd just seen some youths stealing a milk float from DHs work! so had to wake DH up an hour early so he could investigate, luckily they found it not far away in 1 piece.
Am sure I will be shattered later at work - hope its an easy day there!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend! pity us poor workers!:D
Catowen and Mrs_Mix:hello: :hello:
(((hugs))) to MRSM, Candy Girl and anyone else in need of one xxxDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning.
Looks to be another cloudy dull day. But as I have to work later, I don't care.
I have donut mix rising in airing cupboard ready to make delicious donuts later, not unlike Krispy Kreme if you have ever had them???
The fishing yesterday was a success. It was dry and no showers, the sea was a bit choppy and it was hard to stand up, but we won the team prize and the individual cups for best fish. So not a bad day out. I also have a fridge full of fresh fish including a bass.....
Job day this morning with the chickens to clean out and stuff.... boring smelly job, but needs to be done.
Cheers
Here's the bean recipee I promised
Easy American baked beans.

1 med onion chopped up small
1/2 cup of ketchup
1/4 cup of chopped red or green pepper

Splash of Worcestershire sauce
Combine all the above together in a casserole dish
Spread the rashers from a pack of steaky bacon over the top and bake uncovered in the oven for an hour on gas 4 or 180c

Morning all,
Been to the mainland today and have come home exhausted. Chucked all the groceries away but will sort them out better tomorrow. It's come over cloudy so we might get some showers tonight. I hope somethings decent on the telly tonight as I will just veg out.
N9eav Don't forget the bean recipe. I saw that it was hard to stand up. Bet those big wellies came in handy.
Moiliere Your last day of peace and quiet gone. Enjoy it.
taplady Sorry your working hun. Think of the overtime.
rdchap Hope little toad's bottom gets better real fast.
Will pop back later. Hope you have a great Saturday & <hugs> to those that need them. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Good morning
No idea why I am awake this early on a saturday - could be something to do with the cat who is racing up and down two flights of stairs like a creature possessed, and has been for half an hour now
Anyway - it doesn't look quite as grey today so I'm hopeful I'll get out in the garden today and do some much needed tidying up - everyhing seems to have grwon so much in this rain! Will also start to plan how I'm going to organise my container veg. Hoping even to get some stuff in for the winter when I come back from holiday.
I have decided, more or less, to go out to visit OH despite what happenend. He seems much better and is getting medical help now and sticking to it. He has also started working again. I still don't know what the long-term holds for us but I think we need a face to face chance to talk, not just phone/online. So I head off for two weeks on the 24th. I also know that at any point up to when the plane takes off, I can change my mind.
Need to catch up on the end of yesterday's thread now - have a good day - and taplady, I am thinking of you poor souls at work! I hope you have a productive day! (((((hugs))))) to everyone who would like one!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (for yesterday) TO BARGAIN RZL xxx
Im afraid i havnt really read the thread this week, so huge :grouphug: and :hello: to everyone, i hope i havnt missed anything important xxx
Any sign of dlb, crazychik or Ivyleaf lately??? I know there are some others MIA as well, so hope everyone is ok!!
Well, really quiet week workwise for me last week, but i still seamed to be really busy. DS and i had some lovely times together, although i was so happy and relieved when DD returned home yesterday. I cried when i saw the bus go, and i almost cried when i saw it coming back!!! Im so proud of her, she managed to stay the whole week, and her teacher says it has done her the world of good, she has grown up and shown some extrodinary leadership skills in some of the tasks, which is what we were hoping for. Still doesnt want to stay with her dad tho, cant say i blame her he is a complete a r se!! She had sent me a postcard earlier in the week saying how much she missed and loved me, but was having so much fun!! Yes, i cried when i got the postcard too!!!
Today, is catching up on DDs washing, and basically having a lazy day. The house is clean (the upside of having no work!) so will be getting my daily clicks done in a moment, and then catching up on the comps. Will be spending some quality time with my children too!
BM is on making the bread rolls for lunch, and later if DD wants too, we might do some baking.
I hope everyone has a lovely day,
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0
