lol, good post, hey is a dog licence still £0.37.5 pence? or is it cheaper if you have a black and white dog, :D hang on I will ask Bella!

Also cheaper if the dog is blind as well. :D

(I'm old enough to remember the dog licence though)

If your dog is over 75 you don't pay
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

serious question, I take it that you do not have to have a licence for a dog nowadays?

Not for many years now (21 I've just looked up). Although I think (not too sure) there are calls to reintroduce it, at very least for the more "dangerous" breeds.

I'm in the same situation as you, our household has a license, family tv went on the blink so I ordered a new one of the internet, few weeks later get a letter saying I need a license for my address - um if they did their job right they'll see our house is licensed. Now if I want to sort this out I need to spend my cash to phone them, no thanks.

This is where you're facts are incorrect it is not the property which is licenced but the person named on the licence and there family living at the same address, there are circumstances where numerous licences are required at the address ie paying lodgers, also if the person named on the licence has left the address then the people living at the address are not covered, this is the reason those letters are sent out.

But it is if there aren't any lodgers and it's just a single family, yet TVLA send out letters demanding money anyway. There's no point bringing up the circumstances that justify the letters being sent if those circumstances don't apply.

Of course lodgers pay separately because you are separating your property into two distinct parts (and that poster did not mention lodgers at all!).

And of course if a person has left the address, you aren't covered because the address would have changed when they pay.

Come on Bella - you have to admit that letters are always sent (and TVLA keep on sending them) if an address is unlicenced or some person buys a new TV and TVLA has been informed, no matter what circumstances (i.e. whether a licence is required or how the TV is being used). TVLA treats you as a suspect the moment you don't have a licence. You have to admit that.

Just one family in this household, only difference is that the old member of our family who's name the license is in has a different surname.

I've no issue in clarifying things if they provide a freephone number or email address but I resent having to spend my own cash to sort out there assumions

In my case there wasn't even that excuse since it is in my dad's name which is the same surname AND I specifically told them whose name it was in when I cancelled my own license, when they requested the reason why I was cancelling. I.e. "I'm moving to my parents at xxx address where there's already a licence in my dad's name which is xxx". But after that was entered into their records that's when I started getting demands for payment to get a new TV licence. I'd already explained once by phone at the start so I've not phoned them since and it's taken about two years for them to stop sending the letters.
