  • Hi there

I'm in dire need of help to choose a mattress. I've read the last 10 pages and now I'm away to the beginning to start but being awfully impatient can I just ask anyone who's here what kind of bed they sleep in and what they think of it? I'm sure that won't be seen as "selling"

The reason I ask is once upon a time I bought a bed from the Bed Shed (don't know if it has an English equivalent or if it's the same there, I'm Glaswegian) but it was truly, truly hell. I spent a very sad and uncomfortable couple of years till I could afford a new one.

Now, as my back twinges and hurts so much the pain comes into my dreams (honest) I need a new one. I currently have a king size divan and if possible I'll stick with the base. I feel odd buying a mattress online but my only option is that dreaded Bed Shed, Dreams or a department store.

I don't care for the new-fangled nonsense of memory foam and non turn mattresses I want a good, comfortable sleep. I'm overweight somewhat (ex smoker:p ) and the side I normally sleep on is suffering (numb feelings, sore hips, etc)

    Any help GRATEFULLY received

    Hi.

What was the make and model of your previous mattress?

How firm do you like your mattress?

What type of base are you putting the mattress on?

    What is your budget?
  • Thanks for your response

    NestleDown................Fine quality beds since 1888...........

I nearly killed myself turning the mattress over to find that out phew!

I can't remember when we bought it but has stood us in good stead for some time. Been noisy for a couple of years now though.

The base has two big drawers but I think it's fine so I wouldn't replace it if I can help it (it's not sprung, just basic)

I don't really have a budget, I just can't pay silly money for a mattress. And if I have any change left I'd like a comfy headboard.

Now I've got my second wind I'll away back upstairs to get a better description of this dreaded mattress.

  • Hi again

It's called Premier Gold Support-a-paedic? I hope this doesn't show me up as mattress cheapo because I do think it cost a not bad amount. I don't remember where I bought it, though probably Harveys or something like that and it was definitely more than 8 years ago.

Now I'm confused........did you buy it from The Bed Shed a couple of years ago, or from Harveys 8 years ago?
  • I bought the Nestledown one first, replaced with Bedshed one, giving old one to sister in next bedroom, sister left and I got it back, giving the Bedshed one to son. Couldn't cope with noise of young son on a noisy bed so gave away the bedstead and threw out the mattress.

I didn't mean to arouse suspicion:confused: I merely thought I'd canvass some opinion on mattresses in the hope of not making another mistake. Please feel free to ignore my post. Where and why and how is surely irrelevant.

Has anyone had any dealings with Bedworld through Quidco? I was on their site earlier this year but couldn't get a decent idea of how deep mattresses were, etc? I did email them but they said the manufacturers rarely gave depths.

I think the ones in bold are the new posts since your last visit (or something very similar).

Ah, yes! Looks like it is. Many thanks.

So what was the mattress that you hated (the one from Bedshed)?

All I am trying to do is find out what mattress would be most suitable, which is why I asked the questions.

If any company can afford to give cash back through sites like Quidco, then they were obviously just charging too much in the first place.

looking to buy king size bed,got about £1200 to spend, anyone recommend a good bed,i have back problems, would a tempur bed be any good,i'm in falkirk,so anyone know of any good bed centres around there
  • Good morning

The mattress from the Bedshed is the one I hated (and the bedstead for that matter). The other one (the one I had, then didn't have, now have again) is the one I liked but it's old now obviously, and worn out. We're not lightweights my husband and I. The bed is lumpy now, and uneven. It's noisy and every turn is met by twangs and creaks (not just from me).
