Which mattress? (merged threads)

Hi,
I ordered this mattress from Matressman about three weeks ago. It's a special order and is already a week late. It's a Sleepeeze Concept 2000
http://www.mattressman.co.uk/sleepeezee/mattresses/mattresses/king_size/P4863S0/concept_2000.aspx
Should I tell them I don't want it and order one of their 'in stock' mattresses instead?
It's a real shame you didn't read this thread before you ordered the mattress as there are a number of reasons not to.
I haven'tread their terms and conditions, but you should read them carefully to make sure you can cancel a special order. On the subject of special orders I'd be interested to know why it is a special order, or do they just call any item that they don't have in stock 'special'? If this is the case then in their defence many manufacturers have a back log of orders due to the summer holiday period, but they should really have warned you about this.
The mattress is non turn, which is a big no no with pocket springs, as they won't last as long as one that can be turned.
You would be better off with between 1000 and 1800 pocket sprungs. The more springs a mattress has, the smaller they have to be. This means that they can get damaged easily. We originally went to Dreams and laid on a few beds, but discovered that the one we liked the best was not available anywhere but Dreams and I thought it was a bit pricy. It was the Sleepeezee Luxor.
Many of the big chain stores have mattresses made to appear similar to another model. However they are often made to a lower spec, and then given a different name so that the store can charge what they like, and still give a price promise. We both hated the feel of memory foam.
Memory foam often takes time to get used to. If the memory foam mattress you first try out isn't a very good example, then it could put you off them for life.Is the one I've ordered worth waiting for?
Probably not, but it depends how much you really want it.0 -

My mum has a proper Tempur mattress and it's horrible (although her and my dad love it).
Most of the mattresses on the Mattressman site are single sided unless I want to spend a lot more money (and I don't/can't)
Besides, the price has gone up by £25 since I ordered it, so I wouldn't get as good a mattress for the same money. I paid £379 and it's now £403, which is still more than I thought I was going to be spending when I first decided I needed a new mattress.
Of the matresses in stock (and discounting memory foam which I really don't want), which would you buy?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

Tempur are over rated and over priced. They also came bottom in the Which magazine report. Most of the mattresses on the Mattressman site are single sided unless I want to spend a lot more money (and I don't/can't)
I presume they won't refund, so if you have to buy an alternative from mattressman then I'd go for one of these:
http://www.mattressman.co.uk/snuggle_beds/mattresses/mattresses/king_size/P12S6116/snuggle_pocket_1000.aspx
http://www.mattressman.co.uk/sleepeezee/mattresses/mattresses/king_size/P692S5511/concept_1400.aspx
http://www.mattressman.co.uk/millbrook/mattresses/mattresses/king_size/P820S7974/romance_1400.aspx
The Millbrook would probably be the best choice.

Their refund and cencellation policy says that I have seven days to send it back for a full refund. If they haven't dispatched it yet, they can't complain, can they?
They've said it is arriving with them tomorrow, but I might call them now and change to the Millbrook one.
Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Hope it works out for you, Millbrook are a better company than Tempur by a stretch:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. OOh! I've caused a bit of a stir.
She's getting back to me. She says it was a special order and can't be cancelled, but special orders are not mentioned anywhere on their site (or on my confirmation email) and I have seven days to change my mind after it's delivered anyway, plus I want a more expensive alternative that they have in stock AND it was supposed to take 14 days and even if they deliver it on Thursday (as they are suggesting) it will have taken 22 days.
I guess we're about to discover how good their customer service is."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

Make sure they don't insist on delivering it, then let you return it. I believe from reading their terms and conditions previously that they charge you for return postage. So you need to at the very least e-mail them today, and make sure you save the e-mail.
Good luck.0 -
Well, they've said they can't cancel a special order which is fair enough, but I can still return it for any reason with seven days.
I asked them what the difference was between me telling them now (before they deliver) that I don't like it and saving us both the cost of delivery and return and she's gone away again..."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

From what I understand it isn't a special order, it's just one that they don't normally hold in stock. A special order would normally be a one off mattress made to a special size or spec (this one isn't). There is no reason why they can't just put it in stock until they sell another one, then that customers won't have a long wait like you did.0
