Well...after only 2years of use (being regularly turned), my Miracoil mattress was giving both myself and my wife back-ache, and making more noise than the floor boards underneath it every time we twitched! So we checked the bumpf that came with the mattress and saw '10 year guarantee', so made an enquiry with Silentnight via email. 'No worries' they said, we'll send you the form. Filled that in, still had the original receipt and date of purchase so sent it off to them.
About 2weeks later I got a leaflet through the door from Silentnight all about their fine products??? I rung them to ask what was going on, and they stated that the leaflet shows the sliding scale guarantee that Silentnight use. 1st year is fully gauranteed (by the seller I might add - Argos!) and then after that you have to pay an incrimental amount 'towards' the purchase of the replacement mattress. It pays towards the wear and tear of the bed apparently
I then thought, 'Ok, i paid £250 for it 2years ago. Using the sliding scale guarantee they show i'd have to pay 40% of the cost of the mattress, plus delivery.' That would be £100 plus £30 for delivery. So I emailed again. Can I go direct to Argos/supplier and pick the replacement up and pay the £100 there? No. It is direct supply only, AND it is 40% of the current price of the equivelant mattress (over £400), so i'd have to pay nearer £200 for an equally dodgy mattress that is actually only guaranteed for 1year by the company that sells it?!
Customer service???
Quality product and guarantee???
Going back??? Never.
Indeed.
But I'd purse Argos on the basis of the goods not being of satisfactory quality, as the goods should last more than 2 years. You'd claim for damages based on the cost minus an amount for the period of use. And then spend that money elsewhere.
There's a six year time limit on cases, and I'd say it's very fair to judge that the mattress should last this long, given the marketing of the warranty.

That's kinda like sueing Woolworths for selling you a faulty PS3 that's gone wrong 2years down the line??? I don't get why you'd do that?! The warrenty (buck) stops with Sony, and or Silentnight...surely:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Isn't your contract with the agent you purchased the item from? It would then be up to Woolworth to sue Sony. (I think)
No word from Mattressman, but it is early (which is why I can leave early)
At this point, I'll be pleased with either mattress as long as I am slepping on it by tomorrow night."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

No no no. You have no contract with Sony/Silentnight.
Your contract is with Argos/Woolworths - you gave them the money, it is them who has the contractual obligation towards you.
They are required to sell goods of satisfactory quality (a matter of degree, depending on the cost of the goods, their type, etc.).
When it comes to mattresses there are no moving parts, and they should last a number of years without going wrong.
A mattress that lasts less than 2 years is clearly not of satisfactory quality.0 -

There are a few mattress review sites, but many of them seem to actually be owned by manufacturers, although they try to give the impression that they are independent.
Don't be fooled by the power of advertising into going for the big brand names as some of them have lowerd their quality to save costs.
What type of base are you going to put the mattress on?
I know you can't suggest any brands, but can you give me advis of the best most comfortable type of bed to buy.
I'm looking for a double mattress for me and my wife, budget up to £400, we don't have major back problems as such although I do get a sore neck the odd time due to a previous injury. We have a divan base purchased from next 5 years ago.
Basically can you suggest a type of mattress that I should go for bearing in mind i know nothing about mattresses.
You don't have to mention brand names, just the type of bed that will give us the best nights sleep!!0 -

They said up to 28 days.
And mattressman said 14 days, so they are late, and yours isn't.I'm not taken in by anything, it was just the only thing I could find on google about non-turn mattresses. And written by a salesman, much like yourself.
You obviously believe what they wrote, so you were taken in.
Yes I am a salesman as most people in these threads know. However the huge difference is that they are trying to sell from the article, but I'm not trying to sell on here. Otherwise why would I have suggested 3 other mattresses from mattressman??Fears? Do you have any evidence for a substantial number of peole being worried? Like I said, there's pretty much nothing out there suggesting non-turn is a problem, it's marketed as a boon, how many people do you really think are worried?
How many potential customers do you speak to, as you seem to think you know about peoples concerns?Compared to an 1800-spring one? 10% smaller would be the obvious answer. Not something to keep you awake at night.
And you are an expert are you??
A question for you meester, do you just like causing arguments?
Most people make sure they know about a subject before they argue about it.0 -

For your budget you want to be looking at a pocket sprung mattress, or if you can afford a little more then pocket sprung/memory foam would be best.0 -
I did go down that route when Silentnight blanked me, but Argos basically did the same and said 'Our warrenty covers the 1st year, after that take it up with Silentnight'. Made sense to me so didnt argue!
This is a bit of a grey area. If the manufacturer make a mattress then that is faulty then they have to replace it. The seller may act as a go between for what is usually the first three months, but is sometimes up to one year. If a mattress fails after 18 months then that isn't actually the sellers fault, but they may still act as a go between out of good will. However the arguement should be that the manufacturer made an item that hasn't lasted as long as it should.0
