The salesman tried to tell me it was two sided so I lifted it up and proved him wrong  Thank goodness for Tim`s advice, it would be so very easy to get conned.
Knowing the Dreams price tag would be inflated, I have searched online and come up with a possible cheaper version at clickonmattresses.co.uk. Staples Heritage Duchess £549 for double size.- 1600 8" Pocket springs
- Upholstered with luxurious Deep layer of lambswool, soft white cotton felt and a wool blend with silk Turnable so presumably the luxury upholstery is on both sides ( or would they be sly enough to give one nice side and one plain basic side?)
Just wondering if anyone has one of these. Tim, would you say because these two mattresses have similar spec, both medium rated, both 8" pocket springs with a few more on the cheaper Duchess, same luxury upholstery ( plus the duchess is better for having two side of course) and therefore should give the same feel to lie on? I loved the thick, soft layer of upholstery, though I assume it would settle somewhat over time, if looked after and turned regularly could I hope to keep this in good shape for many years? It is only me in the bed and I move about from side to side and in the middle so I would be giving pretty even use to the surface area.
They are a similar spec, and most likely have a similar feel, as they are both high end mattresses.
Staples are a big brand though, they are part of a huge group as you can see here: http://www.hildinganders.se/companyBrands.asp0 -
I've got a Staples Carnoustie and find it to be very good (1000 8" pocket springs IIRC). Staples are a bit more expensive than other comparable mattresses though.
I wouldn't pay extra for natural fillings over man-made either. Bed bugs love them and they don't offer any more comfort anyway.0 -
Ewww, I had forgotten about bedbugs etc, I was thinking of all this lovely natural stuff in my mattress. I have wool mattress topper and duvet and find this much less sweaty than cheap sythetic duvets. Thinking back, that was one of the things that attracted me to latex in the first place. I wish I could find something with the same comfort level at a better price but I have to say as soon as I lay on the Staples I just felt it was right, funny how it just `clicked` even compared to other makes at similar price/spec.0

I had a Simmons Cirrus 800 Kingsize delivered on friday and it feels amazing..
This is a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam top, and Simmons guarantee it for both divans and slatted bed steads. There is no rule that pocket sprung mattresses are not suitable for slatted bedsteads, it depends on the manufacturer and the specific mattress, just ask the manufacturer if you are not sure.
the mattress i got was £400 in the shop in town- on the mattressland website i got it for i think its £236 with free delivery and 2 free memory foam pillows!!0 -
...and no noise from the springs0

Hi Tim.
Do you know anything about Lazy Days mattresses? I'm trying to get a new mattress for my little boy and have always got untreated ones before and would like to again. He has night-time breathing problems from time to time and I try to avoid anything which might add to it.
I have found this one on offer:
http://www.mattress24.co.uk/product/Organic_Cotton_Mattress-329
which says it has an organic cotton cover, although it doesn't say it's completely untreated. I'd like a good quality mattress that will last. I've seen some La Romantica ones on offerand wonder if I should just go for comfort and quality and stop fretting over chemicals. They're hypo-allergenic at least. Is there a lot of difference in quality between the two?
I'd be really grateful for any advice. The new bed has been sitting in my barn for a month while I'm paralysed with indecision and the slats keep popping out of my little boy's cot-bed because he's too big for it!
Oh, and it's a Gautier Galaxy cabin bed, which has a solid base with holes drilled in it, if that makes any difference.0 -

If the cover is cotton, then it must be treated with fire retardant chemicals to comply with British standard fire regulations.
Itisn't worth getting a pocket sprung mattress for a small child as they won't be heavy enough to compress the springs to benefit from the contouring. You would be better off buying a good quality open coil sprung mattress, then using a hypoallergenic mattress protector.0 -

They don't say on the web site, but I presume the Mozart has sprung slats. They will probably tell you that the mattress is ok with slats, but the truth is that if the gaps are over 1", then the mattress won't last as long. However you can lay a sheet of hardboard over the slats to spread the weight out.
The mattress is over priced for what it is, but that is normal for Warren Evans.0 -
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the help. Will get hardboard made up if we buy this bed.
Thanks for the advice. Can you recommend anywhere/models of Individual Pocket Sprung mattresses that you feel are more reasonable? At present there is the 50% WE sale however I think this is probably a 'constant' sale and I have another 10% discount code as well. Inc delivery and 'set up' in a king size, the price is:
Total: £781.200
