Which mattress? (merged threads)

Hi
I'm really pleased to have found this forum, but most of the discussion I've read has been about pocket sprung and memory foam mattresses, often with a price tag out of my reach!
Can anyone can recommend a good open coil spring double size mattress? I've just bought a bedstead with a sprung slatted base and I'm on a tight budget - around £130 would be my maximum price.
I'm looking for medium firm to firm support, and the best quality I can for the price. The range is bewildering, and all market themselves brilliantly. Does anyone have experience of Airsprung, Joseph, Sweet Dreams or Kozeesleep open coil mattresses? Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Hoping someone can help.
With many thanks

Hi,
I'm going to rent my house as I need to move away for work. I've bought four double beds from Ikea but need to buy 4 reasonable mattresses to go with them. I can only really afford up to £130 each. Any recommendations on what to go for and where from. If all else fails I'm planning to get 4 silentnight double mattresses from Makro for £130 each.
Thanks all,
Henry0 -

The Silentnight mattresses in Makro will be UK sizes, so won't fit your Ikea beds. I would do a search on Silentnight in the MSE forums before you consider them anyway.
You can actually get quite good quality open coil sprung mattresses on line for £130 each.
Try to stay away from big brand name manufacturers and sellers in order to get far more for your money.0 -
Tim_Deegan wrote: »You shouldn't be looking for the number in a double as the industry standard is to quote the number in a king size. So for example a 1000 pocket sprung king size mattress would have 1200 springs in a super king size, but would still be called 1000 pocket sprung. The same works the other way for smaller mattresses. A single 1000 pocket sprung mattress won't contain 1000 springs, but it will have the same number of springs per square foot as the king size version.
So you need to be looking at models that are between 1000 and 1800 pocket sprung in a king size, and then order the double size.
Thank you. The info is appreciated.Sigless0 -
Wonder if anyone can advise. I have a pine slatted double bed and am looking for a new mattress. I have seen one called Slumberland Enchant 2400 someone recommended it to me. Would anyone with a bit of knowledge about these things be able to advise if its a good mattress to get?

It appears that Slumberland don't make that model any more. This is probably because it uses the unreliable and noisey continuous spring system. Most manufacturers have actually stopped using this type of system.
All the sites I have found selling this model appear to be the same company, and the link on their site to a Slumberland brochure is actually the 2006 brochure.0 -
Just ordered a new mattress for daughter from bedlum beds, the order has gone through and I paid with card. Has anyone got any experience of when they will let me know delivery? Do they ring or e mail. Hoping it is quick delivery as she gets home from university this week. I should have planned ahead!!!!Sell £1500

Well I will ring them tomorrow, just wondered if anyone knew. Sometimes when you buy on line it tells you at the end when delivery will be but on this site it didn't. I think they are mentioned on here, sorry can't read the whole thread, so I thought someone might know.
Edit to say, I suppose they might be open today so I will for telephone number and try.Sell £1500
