Try phoning La Romantica in the morning. There are quite a few companies who sell it now that it has become so popular.

Just rang them. Still have to drive to Halifax as they are the nearest. Very helpful guy but they're on the back burner for now.

I think the OP's point was that the bed isn't faulty, but it is just a poor design. So I doubt they would take it back if there isn't anything wrong with it.

yep thats my problem, its very badly designed but ther'es nothing thats broken or faulty about it.

Thinking simplest solution for the time be is the sheet of hardboard (I like a firm bed anyway) and a new mattress.

So now I need a recomendation for a double mattress that costs under £100 and is suited to a 5'6" side sleeper weighing 9 stone and preferably is available to order online
DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft
    £14 Weekly food budget

That's just Argos for you I'm afraid....if it's cheap, then it's usually cheap quality

I'm afraid I'm not allowed to give any recommendations except for the type of mattress.

Pocket sprung mattresses don't like slatted beds because the springs try to push down between the slats. However you can either add extra slats to close the gaps up to 1", or you can lay a sheet of pegboard (or hardboard) over the slats to spread the weight out.

I take it you haven't bought the mattress yet?

I normally recommend between 1000 and 1800 pocket springs in a king size mattress. If you have too many springs then each individual spring has to be so small to fit them all in the mattress that they can get damaged very easily.

Make sure the mattress is two sided so that it will wear evenly.

Thanks for that, no haven't bought mattress yet, so are pocket spring mattresses good if you do get hot and bothered? Thank you and I for one appreciate your help.

As long as they are full size pocket springs so that air can circulate through the spring layer, and not the cheaper reflex foam encapsulated type.

Tim, I'm losing the will to live. As a newbie on this site have tried 4 times to post and it keeps telling me I can't. Anyway thanks for your input. So Dunlopillos eh? These are old stock and on display so what do you think is a fair price to pay as I feel the need to haggle at £1500 & £1795 price tags. If can't get a decent price then it's back to dilema of pocket springs v all foam. Should a latex/foam mattress only be put on platform base or can it go on springs. Is there anyone else out there who make all latex like Dunlopillo or have they got the market. Despite my inexperience and frustrations with this site I have found it very helpful.

Stockport, Greater Manchester. Know anywhere nearer than Halifax?

I spoke to them today, and they have loads of companies who sell them, but none of them have any in stock.

It might still be worth the 45 min drive along the M62 to Halifax when you consider what you could save over the shop prices.

First of all ask them how long they have had them in stock. If it's less than 18 months then I think they are telling you porkies. Because it is at least 18 months since they were taken over (probably much longer). If they are very old stock, and they are old models, then they should be at a clearance price. So I'd try to get the price down to well under £1000.

Pocket sprung with memory foam (or latex foam) should give the best support, as well as better ventilation.

You can put any mattress on a sprung base.

La Romantica will make you a latex only mattress if you pop along to Halifax and ask them nicely. They are making two this week, but haven't actually launched them yet.
