This thread is not for petty arguments.

Come on guys, you've had plenty of reminders from the MSE Team, let's play nicely.;)

Hi looking for advice please
http://www.mattressman.co.uk/sleepeezee/mattresses/mattresses/king_size/P693S0L/chilton_2000.aspx
I can get this for £378
or

I cant turn a mattress but either of these would appear to suit me, I am quite heavy & get quite hot in bed so is it better with more springs or more foam?
many thanks in advance.0 -
Hi chaps,
Hope some of you may be able to advise.
I replaced my terrible Sultan Hassellback Ikea mattress with a la romantica venice one about 10 days and me and the missus have found it very comfy so far.
The problem has been only for me - the last few days I have had a really stiff and achy lower back - and I never get back ache normally.
Wondered if this is a common problem for some people on getting a new mattress and how long it might take to go away if so??
Thanks,
Mat.0 -

As you may know I'm not a fan of non turn mattresses as they simply won't last as long as a turnable one.
The first one doesn't state the density of the memory foam, so it would be worth calling them to find out.
The second one has the right density of memory foam, and the right number of springs. Do you know what make it is?
If you get hot in bed, then if possible stick to 2" (50mm) of memory foam.0 -

It is very common when changing from a mattress that doesn't give good support, to one that does to get back ache while your body gets used to the extra support. If the seller gives a satisfaction guarantee then you should contact them before it runs out.0 -
thanks Tim, will persevere with it as my missus isn't having the same problem as me and the mattress looks fine to me, I'll just have to adjust to it by sleeping in more!!0

I used to work for an ergonomic products store (but I don't anymore) and we carried almost exclusively memory foam or high quality air mattresses. We also had a couple of spring mattress, but not many.
A quality memory foam mattress is non-turn by its nature (because it has at least two different types of foam, and the 'comfort' layer is at the top, so flipping it upside down negates that comfort layer).0 -

I am looking to buy a new king size mattress soon as the current one is giving both husband and myself lower back pain.
In the past have just opted for something around £100-150 but are now looking to spend more in order to get a good nights sleep!
We are both overweight so any recommendations or advice on what type of mattress to look in order to get the support (will probably need to be firm) - in particular advice on memory foam versus traditional.
Many thanks.
A good quality memory foam mattress will usually come with a 20+ year warranty (split 10 yr full warranty, then 10 yr depreciating). Most (but not all) spring mattresses I've seen come with around a 10-15 year warranty.
I think the warranty tends to speak for itself - but then again, it's worthless if you can't get a good night's rest on the mattress.
Personally, I'd look for a mattress store that has a "comfort guarantee" - meaning that if you can't sleep well on the mattress you can return it or at least exchange it for store credit to be used toward a different one.0 -

There is only one reason why most (not all) memory foam mattresses are non turn, it is to cut production costs because the memory foam is the most expensive part of the mattress.
The comfort layer on top as you call it, is not the comfort layer at all. The memory foam is only there to mould to your body so that it gives even support without causing pressure points. The bounce or firmness actually comes from the spring or reflex foam layer underneath.
A turnable mattress will last far longer than a non turn one.0
