Try offeroftheday on the web and use their search engine I've just found quite a few in the co-op bedshop although you buy mattress and bed separately. Littlewoods have a cyberbed cheap.

I have been looking for a mattress for a few weeks, tried out loads and decide I do not like pocket sprung with memory foam.

Most of the shops state a good pocket sprung mattress is better, they also stated (4 dealers) the more pocket springs the better. Now that contradicts what as been said on this site when it as been stated 1000 is enough.

Everyone is different for me I will stick to a pocket sprung bed which one I do not know.

I am looking at Millbrook also as anyone heard of Harrison Beds

    Hello.

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the 'Highgate Healthopaedic Silk 1000' single mattress.

    Thank you.

Ikea do day beds, the black one is cheap but the white one works out about the same asthe next one as you have to buy a mattress.
Dunelm do one, still have to buy a mattress but the frame is cheaper :

Many retailers and manufacturers will say 'the more pocket springs the better', but it is simply because they charge more for more pocket springs. I would normally recommend to stay between 1000 an 1800.

That's in a king size, right?

I think a lot of the things said on this thread need to be taken with a pinch of salt - taking advice from ANY retailer should be done so with caution.

It's not difficult to link the threads together here - diss the opposition and promote your own.

They look rubbish?... What's that opinion based on then? A webpage image or close inspection and first hand experience of the product? Does it matter what they look like? Having slept on one for some months now, I'm more interested in how my mattress feels... So far it's been excellent but if any issues arise in time I'll be posting the details here...

As they don't display their goods anywhere (wonder why...), my opinion is based only on the photos on websites - I hope the bed looks better in the flesh than it does on those photos. It looks shoddy - even the name plate is attached poorly!

Which bed did you get? How solid does it feel? How is the memory foam - is it hot, or do you sink in or stick to it? Do the bed sheets get stuck to it and need constant refitting? What's the support like - will it be good for bad backs?

For all the dozens of times I've seen La Romantica beds mentioned in this thread, I've yet to hear any solid customer reviews - perhaps you'd be good enough to provide one?

I see there's a Madrid on ebay at the moment, from a chap with a bad back who doesn't like it, which is rather worrying as the sales blurb goes on about osteopath recommendations (obliquely and vaguely though...), Nasa technology and the like. But that's the only impartial review I've seen so far - I am happy to be directed to more positive reviews, especially from those who have had it a long time - pretty much ALL new beds are good in the short term, so reviews on how long their mattresses last would be useful. Strangely, the seller(s) go silent when this question is asked...

I can't comment on the Madrid but I recently bought a La Romantica Roslin.
I'm very happy with the appearance and finish.

If you search the thread you will find some positive comments from people who have bought La Romantica beds.

We bought a La Romantica Madrid back in January which I have posted about here several times in the interim - you can easily search my posts to find the detail.

The mattress is probably best described as medium-firm. It feels well made and was a lot heavier than we thought it would be.

We've had some hot weather recently and our bedroom is in a loft room which is always on the warm side - neither of us have found the mattress too hot so far but the height of the summer (if we have one) will tell of course. We don't find we sink into the foam unduly and just use a simple mattress protector under our normal bed sheets.

I obviously have no idea about the guy with the bad back you mention but I can tell you it took a while to get used to the new mattress so I can imagine some people might be put off before they've adjusted to it. Since we've acclimatised, however, the Madrid has proved extremely comfortable for both of us - me with my 16 stone frame and my 10 stone wife.

Having said all that, our experience is no guarantee that this mattress will suit you or anyone else. All I can tell you is that we previously looked in many big name stores and all the equivalent memory foam/pocket sprung mattresses were at least double what we paid and didn't look or feel any better than what we now have. I'd imagine a large part of the price differential is down to all the flashy showrooms and extensive marketing these large companies tend to employ to enhance their image. At the end of the day you pay your money and take your choice...
