Esther_1000 wrote: »Hi there.
I've just been bed shopping, and found it really difficult trying lots of mattresses and working out which would be best. I'm only light (9.5 stone?), but I like a firmish bed.
I've been to Dreams, and liked these beds:
Opal (with memory foam) on the dreams website - I'm not allowed to post links
Rosetta: sorry, got to delete links
Sahara : and again.
It seems people here think they're seen as over-priced though (phew).
I also went to a smaller independent store in Brighton, where they make their own mattresses (manufactured as ComfySleep).
The beds of theirs I liked seemed a similar price and comfort to the Dreams ones (cheaper mattresses, more expensive divans), but they also had some cheaper ones (single £250, double £300) from Dreamworks, called Crester Deluxe(?) In the shop there were two mattresses, a medium firm version and a firmer one, which I could not choose between. Online there seems to only be a Crest 1000, which is sometimes described as medium firm: @ furniture123 (no links)
Sometimes soft to medium: @ planet beds.
Are these different models, or just different descriptions? They look different to the mattresses I tried too, but I don't know if this is just cosmetic (I'm not planning to buy from those sites though).
I was thinking of going for the Dreamworks as it felt as comfy, and was substantially cheaper than the others I liked... but I don't want to be making a false economy.
I suffer from chronic ME, so need a good bed, but I'm also living to a tight budget so want to spend as little as possible to get this good bed! Just the trouble/ effort of doing all of this hunting has been a real strain, so any advice to make things easier would be greatly appreciated.
The self-manufactured pocket spring beds from ComfySleep felt more padded than the Dreamworks ones, but I'm not sure I liked that. I liked their memory foam/ pocket spring combos, but they cost more, and I was unsure if it was worth paying the extra. If I thought the quality was the same for the two brands, I'd probably go for the Dreamworks.
The memory foam bed from ComfySleep felt good, but very different. The one I liked cost for £340 (single) £450 double, with 800 pocket springs, 3" memory foam, side stitching (apparently this is exciting?)
Any advice? Does anyone know of ComfySleep (they seem not to have a website)? Has anyone learnt anything about Dreamworks since they were last mentioned? Anyone discovered an easy way of getting your dream bed for a bargain price?
thanks
(PS: Hi Tim, after reading chunks of this thread, I feel like I know you like a brother).
edit: what a long post - sorry for rambling.
Does anyone have any info on dreamworks? Or comfysleep? Or other advice?0 -

It would depend mainly on what is under the memory foam. If it is pocket springs then no, but if it is open coil springs or reflex foam then you are more likely to get roll together, but the memory foam can help to stop it.0 -
Hello Tim
You have wrote on several ocassions, ''As a general rule the only time you find a bargain at Argos is when it's reduced to clear.''
Well, I have found 2 at Argos that I can afford, but unfortunately there is very little detail on the Argos site, and Airsprung's own site wasnt much help. I would be grateful if you could elaborate on exactly what I would be getting for my money.
The mattresses are for a couple in their 60s, weighing approximantely 13 stones each, and with slight and only ocassional back pains. The mattresses will be placed on seperate single metal bedsteads with wooden slats (although I can fit a sheet of hardboard if necessary).

I see what you mean.
The photo on the first one appears to be a photo of the Airsprung Enigma, but that one doesn't contain any memory foam. It doesn't say the depth or the density of the memory foam (which are both very important). Also it doesn't say the gauge of the springs, but at a rating of medium to firm I would suspect the are 12.5 gauge bonnell open coil sprung. It doesn't say non turn, but I suspect it probably is. It appears that this model may be made for Argos.
The second one is very similar to the first except that it has the trizone spring system. This is a bit of a gimmick, and just meand that it has different spring tensions across the mattress.
The so called reduced prices aren't what I would call low. In fact I would say they are about right from what you can tell from the spec.
If I were you I would give Airsprung a call:

Really?? It shouln't feel like that at all. What model did you buy?0 -
Thanks Tim
I have also seen one more at Tesco, comparable in price - but this one has pocket springs rather than the open coil springs the Argos Airsprungs had.

Also, are bedbugs less likely to infest a metal bedstead with metal headboard (rather than a traditional wood & fabric divan base with velour headboard) ?
Thank-you0
