    Hi there.

I've just been bed shopping, and found it really difficult trying lots of mattresses and working out which would be best. I'm only light (9.5 stone?), but I like a firmish bed.

I've been to Dreams, and liked these beds:

Opal (with memory foam) on the dreams website - I'm not allowed to post links
Rosetta: sorry, got to delete links
    Sahara : and again.

It seems people here think they're seen as over-priced though (phew).

I also went to a smaller independent store in Brighton, where they make their own mattresses (manufactured as ComfySleep).

The beds of theirs I liked seemed a similar price and comfort to the Dreams ones (cheaper mattresses, more expensive divans), but they also had some cheaper ones (single £250, double £300) from Dreamworks, called Crester Deluxe(?) In the shop there were two mattresses, a medium firm version and a firmer one, which I could not choose between. Online there seems to only be a Crest 1000, which is sometimes described as medium firm: @ furniture123 (no links)

Sometimes soft to medium: @ planet beds.

Are these different models, or just different descriptions? They look different to the mattresses I tried too, but I don't know if this is just cosmetic (I'm not planning to buy from those sites though).

I was thinking of going for the Dreamworks as it felt as comfy, and was substantially cheaper than the others I liked... but I don't want to be making a false economy.

I suffer from chronic ME, so need a good bed, but I'm also living to a tight budget so want to spend as little as possible to get this good bed! Just the trouble/ effort of doing all of this hunting has been a real strain, so any advice to make things easier would be greatly appreciated.

The self-manufactured pocket spring beds from ComfySleep felt more padded than the Dreamworks ones, but I'm not sure I liked that. I liked their memory foam/ pocket spring combos, but they cost more, and I was unsure if it was worth paying the extra. If I thought the quality was the same for the two brands, I'd probably go for the Dreamworks.

The memory foam bed from ComfySleep felt good, but very different. The one I liked cost for £340 (single) £450 double, with 800 pocket springs, 3" memory foam, side stitching (apparently this is exciting?)

Any advice? Does anyone know of ComfySleep (they seem not to have a website)? Has anyone learnt anything about Dreamworks since they were last mentioned? Anyone discovered an easy way of getting your dream bed for a bargain price?

    thanks

(PS: Hi Tim, after reading chunks of this thread, I feel like I know you like a brother).

edit: what a long post - sorry for rambling.

As anyone heard any good reports on Dreamworld beds been looking at
    Richmond 1000 pocket
Just want an honest opinion thanks

The Richmond model appears to be an entry level pocket sprung mattress.

As pocket springs don't tend to be made any firmer than medium to firm, then I suspect that to make it a firm rating that it has firm layers of quilting.

It appears to be exclusive to Co-op.

Rest Assured are part of the Silentnight group. Do a search in these forums for them.

Yes, but the 'evidence' against Rest Assured all seems to stem from you...What evidence do you *specifically* have that RA beds are rubbish? What evidence do you have that being part of the Silentnight group has reduced RA's quality? Afterall, Lexus and Toyota are the same manufacturers, but I'd have no qualms at all in recommending Toyotas even though they are inferior motors to Lexi (plural).

And you've sometimes derided brands for having only "entry level" springs. Don't the brands you sell (and have promoted here) also have entry level springs? Then what's the difference?

Oh, and I'd never heard of La Romantica beds before I read this thread, well some of it at any rate. Despite no reviews and very little feedback, they now appear to the bed of choice on MSE. Bravo. All I can say is they'd better be more comfortable and long lasting than they look, cos they look rubbish!

Rest Assured are made in a different factory too. I'm not sure if they're made by hand though.

I've asked a few other sellers who sell La Romantica and they seem to put them in the budget area. Still, I guess being cheaper doesn't have to mean they're inferior.

If you read the posts it actually comes from loads of people. I simply convey what most people I speak to who have owned one, have told me.

If you don't want to believe me, then don't. Just go ahead and buy one.

I don't promote anything on here, so I don't know where you get that from.

The Silentnight group have a number of factories, but production for most large bed companies is now mainly automated.

    The truth is you don't know, do you? You are merely guessing, as you alluded to in a previous reply;

    Q. Sealy, Pocket Spring Bed Company etc. are made in different factories, correct? Does that mean the quality varies greatly between the different SilentNight brands (not that I'd get one anyway)?

    A. I don't really know to be honest, but it wouldn't make good business sense to make the springs in a few different factories. So I should think that individual components for the whole group are probably made in the same factory. The whole group are in the Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria area, so they aren't exactly far apart.

You must admit that is pretty vague.

Given this, can you *categorically* state that Rest Assured pocket sprung beds have the same springs as Silentnight? Can you *categorically* state they are essentially the same beds? Can you *categorically* state the quality of RA beds has diminished since the company became part of the SN group?

I don't think he can. I would say that, even if certain Silentnight brands are of decent quality, tales on here of the group's customer service put me off considering them.
