I guess it is time for a new search....thanks.....
Dreams tend to give out very little information.
The memory foam should be between 2" and 2.5". If the memory foam isn't deep enough then it won't be enough to contour to your body. If it is too deep, then it won't give you any more support, but you will just sink deeper into it, become engulfed, and prevent your natuarl cooling system working properly, which can make you too hot.0 -
I have just bought a victorian brass bed (king size) which has a sprung metal coil spring base. What sort of mattress should i be using ? Base is supposed to be fairly new.0

Sorry I'm new to this and don't really understand the question, but the bed is a genuine Victorian bed bought second-hand, but it had a new sprung base added about two years ago. It's a sort of metal frame that has vertical coiled springs and that sits on top of the original solid metal frame.0

I think I know the type you mean.
Are the springs exposed, or covered under fabric?0 -
The springs are exposed. There are 48 (6 rows of 8) and they are supported on metal rods. Over the top of the base is a smal hole, approx 1 cm, metal mesh.0

Ok. I know what you mean now.
If the mesh only has 1cm holes then you should be able to use any type of mattress (as long as the springs are quite new, and don't sag).0 -
Thankyou, that's been really helpful.
Just a case of what's most comfortable and how far we can stretch the budget then.

Thank you Tim, much appreciated. Will identify some suitable replacement options and run them by you if that is okay. Or maybe you can suggest something, realise you are not allowed to 'advertise' yourself but I am sure the mods will understand that the recommendation of an expert is what we all need. Or at least I know I do anyway. Thanks in advance.

Hi been following this thread for a while and am looking for a little help with the minefield of mattresses.
I have a wooden slatted bed frame (3" gap) and would like a new mattress. Would like one less than £250 with the following;
1000 Pocket springs
2 sided (Turnable)
Standard Double size
Not really convinced about memory foam at the moment.
Is this one any good?

Any advice gratefully received.0
