OK Tim, thanks, So...........I have a question for you about "City Breaks"
So would you prefer to spend a night in Madrid or Venice?
I know Venice is slightly more to expensive to spend a night in, but is it worth paying that little bit extra? And why, whats the difference is it just the 500 places where natural water comes from?0 -

Avoid budget mattresses as you can usually feel the springs through them.
If you want to spend £90-£110 you should be able to get a top of the range 10" deep open coil sprung mattress. The springs in these would be the same size as those in a 7" mattress. The extra 3" is made up from extra quilting.
Thanks, Tim.
I was looking at this one:

Or this one:

Any further advice would be appreciated."Life was easier when I didn't have a clue"0 -
Thanks, Tim.
I was looking at this one:
http://www.mattressonline.co.uk/products/newcastle_mattress.html
The main thing that worries me about this one is this:
"Please note the image above is for illustration purposes only, to keep the price of the mattress to a minimum we use clearance covers, your mattress may differ slightly from that pictured. However it will always be a high quality damask in a neutral or cream style."
In other words you could get whatever they feel like sending you as long as it has a cream damask cover (which most damask mattresses have).
In fact the mattress in the picture doesn't even match the description. It says "The mattress is covered in high loft deep quilt damask cover", but the mattress shown is hand tufted, and not deep quilted (which is a completely different type of quilting).
This one says very little about it, although personally I would go for more of a medium for children.
Obvoiusly it's difficult to comment on a mattress with so little in the description. However from looking at the photo it doesn't look like more than 7" or 8" deep. So it fits into the middle of the range category that you can get for around £70.0 -
How often should a mattress be turned Tim?
I've been educating the OH on the complexities of buying a new bed as she is now demanding that I make a decision and order a new bed as shes sick of me making a racket every time I roll over (Yes it's a silentnight!)
Any way back to my point, she claims to have read somewhere that you shouldnt turn the mattress too often as this causes dust mites to move around inside the matress, I always hoover the matress after we do turn it so I'm sure that would counter act any thing like that?
So Tim is she talking twoddle?0 -

Silentnight mattresses probably once an hour....lolI've been educating the OH on the complexities of buying a new bed as she is now demanding that I make a decision and order a new bed as shes sick of me making a racket every time I roll over (Yes it's a silentnight!)
Miracoil by any chance?Any way back to my point, she claims to have read somewhere that you shouldnt turn the mattress too often as this causes dust mites to move around inside the matress, I always hoover the matress after we do turn it so I'm sure that would counter act any thing like that?

Who told her that??
Dust mites feed on dead skin, so they would go to where their food is. If you never turn you mattress then all the dead skin will be in the same place, which would be an ideal breeding ground for dust mites.
Hoovering the mattress is a good way to get rid of their food source and eggs.
There are loads of hypoallergenic mattresses on the market which dust mites don't like. This includes almost all memory foam mattresses.0 -
Hiya,
I was checking the forums for some reviews on this kingsize mattress before buying and like most people I am now extremely confused.
A degree in bed science is needed to work out what to buy!!!
The chaucer was extremely comfortable in the showroom but am now concerned regarding future use.
Would be most grateful for any help.
Thanks
BTW the chaucer is 2000 pocket springs and deep memory foam pillow top.0 -
Some advise please from Tim / other MSE'rs
I currently have a Slumberland Divan, about 6 years old. The GF complains that she keeps rolling into the centre and is thrown into the air when I turn over. I've also been waking with bad back / aching neck recently. In light of this, I reckon a new mattress/bed is in order.
Will it be OK to keep the divan base and order mattress on it's own or is best practice to get new base as well?
Looking at advice on here, Pocket Sprung seems to be the best and medium firm seems to be about the right support. . 'Airsprung' and 'Kozee' seem to be relatively competitively priced but are these any good?
Any advise much appreciated.
Edit: Been looking at these which all come in under £500:

The first one is Rest Assured, which is Silentnight, so forget it.
I'll go through the rest later, as I have to go out soon.
