I'm not knocking mattressman, but when are people going to realise that companies don't just give away money, so all the money you get back by using quidco has just been added on to the price of the goods. It's just an advertising ploy to make people think they are getting something that they aren't.

Whilst I'm aware that companies don't give away money, if the companies product is cheaper and there's quidco then surely its win win!!?

I ordered my divan from furniture123.co.uk and after their (constant) sale discount, an extra 10% discount code + 7 % Quidco my kozeesleep pocketmaster bed ended up around £100 cheaper delivered than any where else on the net.:T

I'm not disagreeing with you but quidco can be great if used wisely!

Not if like many people you just go to Quidco thinking that you will get the cheapest deal. You will often find that the cheapest retailers don't use quidco, because if they did then they would have to put their prices up.

Out of interest how much did you end up paying?

True it shouldn't be used as a search engine, it should only be used as Martin:money: suggests, just prior to a purchase.

It cost £369 delivered for 4"6 Pocketmaster 1100 with sprung base and four draws, I know its not top of the range but it was comfy enough for me when I tried it out, I couldn't find any websites with it cheaper and the guy in my local shop almost fainted when he heard the price..

Wished I could support local business men more though :-(

Have I paid a good price?? as can still cancel if anywhere cheaper crops up

No I don't think you will beat that price.

I'll let you into a little secret......furniture 123 didn't make much on that sale. Was that including delivery?

They shouldn't go round posting 10% discount codes then should they :T hehe

Yeah including "free" delivery. That's where Quidco can be good though, when the deal is already unbeatable, turning a sale into a deal that no one would knowingly give you. I like to support smaller companies, but sometimes its just too tempting to screw over the big ones!

I have to say your advice on here is first class and has re-iterated much of the advice I received from fellow 'people in the know' although one of the dreams sales people spoke utter tosh.

Keep up the good advice MSE are lucky to have you

What makes you think Dreams sales people are in the know? They are trained to speak utter tosh just to get a sale.

    Hi all,

I'm after some advice - I need a mattress for my 5yo daughter. We have a mid sleeper base for her already, which has a slatted base (the slats are about 2-3 inches apart). What sort of mattress would you recommend, then I can do some research into prices (avoiding the big high street names, I gather!)

    Regards.

Just a medium deep quilted open coil sprung mattress should be fine. You should be able to pick a middle of the range one up for under £70.

Avoid budget mattresses as you can usually feel the springs through them.

If you want to spend £90-£110 you should be able to get a top of the range 10" deep open coil sprung mattress. The springs in these would be the same size as those in a 7" mattress. The extra 3" is made up from extra quilting.

I don't think it is a two sided mattress, otherwise they would mention it as it is a major feature.

I think what they mean by 'Turn mattress frequesntly' is that you should rotate it lengthways.
