Yes it is budget but my children have them and they seem a good buy for kids and occasional use in a spare room if anyone was looking for that type of thing.0 -
Guys thanks for the replies, as I'm new here I am not able to post links, but I will give you the names of the sites when I get home.
I think I will just stick with a memory foam mattress but it's a nightmare choosing the right one!
My budget is £250-300, can someone please recommend me a good memory foam mattress within the budget?
I'd be very grateful. I've ordered some wood to place on my bed as a base for the mattress and this will arrive on Friday, so I must order a new mattress as soon as possible as it's doing my back in!
Thanks guys.0 -

For your budget your best option would be open coil sprung with memory foam.
Stay away from big brands and big retailers to get the most for your money.0 -
Tim thanks very much for your help, unfortunately spring mattresses' just dont do it for me, they are ok for a few months and then I can feel the springs, followed by pain etc.
I've tried so many spring mattress' even some expensive ones and we just dont get along. Personally I think that springs should never be in a mattress, just doesnt make sense to me but I'm no expert and just my opinion.
My friend has had a reflex foam mattress (I think its a reflex foam, its definitely not memory foam) for years and every time I go over, I just love sitting/lying on his bed! I've never owned one before so I feel I should give one a try.
I'm looking to buy from this site called www nest-sleep co uk ever heard of this site Tim? They seem to offer a good range of memory foam/latex and normal foam mattress'.
I've found a reflex foam mattress for about £200 on their site, but their memory foam mattress pages dont state the density of the memory foam etc so I'm a little unsure.
Any other ideas Tim or anyone else? I think I've left this whole mattress business a little too late and desparately in need of one.
Sorry to be a pest and thanks very much.

The only mattresses that I have ever been able to feel the springs on have been low quality ones. These have been budget mattresses, or one in particular was made by Layezee (part of the Silentnight group), which was in a hotel that I stayed in. It was twin sprung with latex foam, and was probably quite expensive, but was the most uncomfortable and hot bed I have ever slept on.
Most full size mattress springs are about 6" deep. So a 10" deep mattress has 2" on either side which is made up from a thick felt mattress pad that stops you being able to feel the springs, then thick layers of various types of quilting (depending on the actual mattress). So with a good quality mattress you should NEVER be able to feel the springs.
With pocket sprung mattresses, due to the way each spring works independently, they actually contour to your body. This means that you should never feel more pressure from any individual spring.
I would be interested to know which expensive mattresses you have been able to feel the springs through?
I am also a fireman, and we have reflex foam mattresses at work. I find them very hot and sweaty. Also after only 12 months use I noticed that the foam had started to dip in the middle, and you can actually feel the hard bed base under your hip if you lay on your side. Unfortunately it is a property of reflex foam that it does start to break down in this way.
£200 is over the top for a reflex foam only mattress. Prices should be similar to open coil sprung.
I seee what you mean about the lack of specification shown for the mattresses. This is often because specifications are low. However out of their range if I were to buy any it would be the Healthbeds one, as i know the specifications are good.0 -
I am currently looking to buy a new double bed but not sure what mattress type to get. Reading through the last 20 or so pages the recommendation seems to be the venice but put off by the likelyhood that it will be hot due to the foam.
I have around £500 - £600 to spend inc base, is the pocket sprung only mattress the way to go? and if so what good manufacturers should I be looking at around that price range?0 -

The horror stories about memory foam being hot mainly come from reflex foam/memory foam mattresses, or mattresses where the memory foam layer is too deep. With mattresses with proper full size pocket springs, and 2" of memory foam you should only find it slightly warmer than a non memory foam mattress at the worst.
If you really suffer from being too hot in bed, then it might be better to go for pocket sprung only.0 -
Hi Tim
I have been looking to get a King Size Memory Foam Mattress and have stumbled across the below site that seems to tick all the boxes for a very reasonable price.
sleepassureduk.com
I have checked companies house and they have been running since 1989 so hopefully not out to make a quick buck on the current trend of memory foam mattreses.
My only concern is that after a few years the foam becomes weak in the middle an im back to the same situation, is this a known fault with these types of mattresses?
any advice?

Some months ago we took the plunge and purchased the above mattress from Bedlum Beds having got fed up with all the B/S and extortionate prices to be found on the high street. Having now had a good period to assess it I can confirm we're both delighted with our purchase. Although, as I originally posted when we first tried it (and others here have confirmed), the mattress was a little firmer and deeper than we expected, overall we think it's very comfortable. We sleep in a loft room which gets very warm, so the recent spell of hot weather was a good opportunity to find out weather the foam would pose any sort of problems with overheating. Thankfully it was fine and we suffered no feelings of sweatiness at all.
Every time we get into bed the support, comfort and total lack of groaning, squeaking springs is just so nice. We've never slept better!!!
All in all the, the La Romantica Madrid and Bedlum Beds are thoroughly recommended by 2 very happy people!
Well done once again to Tim Deegan and Bedlum Beds! :beer:0 -
