    Hi,

    I hope you can help!

We have a Breasley flexcell mattress just over a year old, it has collapsed on both sides (it did this within 4 months) and comes wiht a 5 year guarantee, basically i do not want it replaced with like, what should I do to try and get our money back?

Because of this we have been looking at buying a whole new bed: vi spring, not cheap I know, can you recommend anywhere to buy one for the best price?

Finally, would it be possible that a bedstead like a jaybee metal bed frame like old metal french beds be the cause of the Breasley Mattress collapsing or could it be that I have to climb over my husband to get into bed as the bed is against a wall?

I am so tired of this. it is very uncomfortable.

Is there any mattress/bed we could but that would stop this, initially I thought a new bed with no footboard so i can get into bed from the end, but a local bed shop have said a good mattress like vi spring should cope wiht this, should I believe it? or is it sales?

Sorry ahve lost confidence with mattresses, am I doing somehting wrong?

I look forward to some help - sorry a lot to ask!.

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Louis dog

I've heard of this happening before with this make. I wouldn't hold out much hope for getting your money back, especially as it is probably a 5 year warranty with only a 12 month guarantee. This could mean that they will only repair or replace, and that you may have to pay towards the cost.

Although Vi Spring are a good make, they are very over rated and over priced. I have owned one myself. You would be better off going for a smaller independent manufacturer.

Do Breasley say that their mattress is suitable for any type of base?

I really can't see how climbing over your husband would shorten the life of a decent mattress so much.

I think it is probably more the poor manufacturing of the mattress rather than how it is used, or the base.

Don't believe a word he told you, he just wants you to spend more. Most Vi Spring mattresses are pocket sprung, which would be more likely to be damaged by both a slatted base, and you climbing over.

    Hi Tim,

Thank you so much, I knwo that was a long one and I witter! so apologies for that.

What and where would you recommend that I get a good quality mattress from to sit on my jaybee? or do you think i should change the jaybee as well and start a fresh with a whole new bed and mattress?

Thanks for the heads up on the Breasley, may as well give up, I dont want another crappy replacement! it cost £1200, what a mug I must be! damn annoyed though as the shop ahve avoided coming out to see it till now, prob due to the 12 months!?

Why is it so hard to just find something good qaulity and to try to see the wood through the trees?

Can I just ask forgive my ignorance, how come you know so much? (as you can tell im a newbie!)

I have just found the guarantee it says:

    5 Year Guarantee Certificate
This mattress has been manufactured to the highest standards of quality and is designed to provide many years of comfort subject to proper use. This guarantee cover any unlikely defect that may occur in the flexible mattress core. If a defect appears at any time within a 5 year period following the purchase date, please contact the retailer from whom you bought this mattress and present this guarantee along with your original proof of purchase.

Sorry, one more thing, when they come out to inspect the mattress next week, I am wondering what is the best thing to tell them (obviously the truth is a good start but I dont want them to try and worm out of it!? they ahve avoided returnign calls and coming out for so long!!!)

    Thank you again.

I can't actually recommend anything on MSE as it would be seen as advertising. However you should be looking for a good quality open coil sprung mattress, that would be fine with the Jaybe bed. If you go for a small independent manufacturer, and buy on line then you will get far more for your money.

The time should start from when you reported the problem, rather than when they came out to inspect it.

Because the bed industry is full of hype and sales gimmicks I'm afraid.

If you read back through the thread you will see how.;)
  • Oh, what to do?

I saw the Freemans Silentnight offer (£600 discount on the king-size divan with 27cm miracoil pillowtop mattress) on the grabbit board and just jumped in with two feet and ordered it online.

    £153 seemed such a bargain!

But now I have spent much of today reading through all the mattress advice on here and I'm feeling a lot less smug. the general thrust seems to be "don't buy Silentnight at ANY price"!

So what should I do Tim? I seem to be one of the few whose order is going through despite the mispricing error (I paid by credit card). But should I cancel or take the bargain?!!

    am in a dilemma.

From what I can find out it appears that Perfecta are the same company as Layezee, who are now part of the Silentnight group

If as you say you get back and hip pains, and you don't like memory foam, then you would be better off going for a pocket sprung mattress. As for the firmness you would have to try out different ones to see what you like.

I think I remember you saying that you have a slatted bedstead, so you will probably have to lay a sheet of pegboard (or hardboard) over the slats.

Personally I'd cancel. Not just because of the brand, but also because it is pillow top.

I hope my freemans bed doesn't get cancelled.
I have just spent weeks trawling the local bed shops (not any of the big names), I took notes of the mattresses I liked and still got totally confused, couldn't remember which I liked best by the time I got home.
In the end I ordered a Rest Assured Rossini pocket sprung with latex top 3-4 weeks del.
Then I saw the Freemans offer and I jumped in feet first, now I will have a new bed and a spare mattress (how's that for back to front money saving).
Bye the way, I have a memory foam mattress with coolmax cover at the moment. Ok if you can't get warm at night, it's very comfortable but boiling hot. Good job it's got a coolmax cover or I'd probably have roasted to death by now. ML
