Ideally all mattresses should be two sided in order to prolong their life, but this isn't as important with open coil springs because they are much tougher as all the springs support each other. However with pocket springs it is best to go for two sided if you can, as not turning them can make a huge difference to the life of the mattress.
There are a few two sided pocket sprung/memory foam mattresses about.
Thanks. In that case are there any particular mattresses you could recommend? Or is that a no go too? I have around £400 to spend, but am prepared to spend more if it will make a huge difference.
And can anyone recommend any sellers/shops?
The more I read, the more confused I get as to what type of mattress is actually best to be spending cash on. Having been saving for what feels like forever to actually buy one, I don't want to waste my cash. So any advice at all is appreciated.Sigless0 -
Hi Tim,
What do you think of the Hypnos Evesham mattress. Seems a good price for a good branded, pocket sprung, firm mattress:

And also the Hypnos Emerald?

Personally I'd stay away from big brands, but saying that Hypnos are one of the better big brands.
It appears that the 6' evesham was probably a cancelled special order (probably for a hotel as they are contract mattresses) as It seems that mattressman are the only people who sell it in that size, and they only have two in stock. So it is probably a good price.
The second one is non turn, so I would stay well clear.0 -
TJ Hughes are doing this memory foam mattress at huge reduction- is the RRP exaggerated?-is the sale price how much they are anyway? -or is this one an exceptionally high quality make?

Tim,
would you be kind enough to point out the pros and cons of this one please?

Or even if you could give me a hint on which makes to look for? Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.Sigless0 -

It's difficult to say just by looking at the web page. There are more or less no specifications at all, and the mattress shown doesn't look very deep at all.
If it is anything to go by, T J Hughes were selling a Silentnight memory foam mattress that got very poor reviews on MSE, partly due to it's very low spec.
I'd say that the price is probably about right (not the RRP).0 -
