That's great to know, I did wonder if any of them would agree to 'air' the mattress before delivery

I would prefer one that contours (which I know the memory foam does) so that it supports my back.

I haven't asked my doctor, my back problem isn't usually a problem unless I sit or lie the wrong way i.e. on a firm mattress.

I'm interested in a natural latex mattress with pocket spring base but not sure if anywhere in NI sells them for me to try out before buying.

Thank you so much for your post myaccount08, it's good to know I'm not just being awkward :o

It might be more difficult finding a manufacturer in NI that will air it for you, as most manufacturers are in the Yorkshire area. However I'm sure there must be a few small independent manufacturers out there.

It would be worth asking you doctor to find out if a the pressure from a mattress contouring to you back might make your condition worse.

I know this thread's mainly about mattresses and I'll come to those in a mo. But first, anyone got an opinion on whether it's worth getting a superking size bed or is a king size ample?
Partner and I aren't large but I'm increasingly finding our double bed too small. Was looking at getting a king size but only adding an extra 4" hardly seems worth it. On the other hand getting a superking has the disadvantage of more expense, harder to find bedding and obviously would take up a fair amount of room in the bedroom! If only there was something in between at about 5'5"...

Have been reading a fair amount of this thread and pretty set on getting a pocket sprung (no memory foam) mattress. What's a reasonable price for a good quality one? I've been looking at the Kozeesleep Caversham 1100 and seen a kingsize for £252 - seems good price (too good?)

too new to send link to above but be grateful for any comments, cheers

It is a matter of personal choice. A king size is actually 6" wider, and 3" longer than a double. Most people find this suits them fine.

You will find that there is a big difference in price between king size and superking size. So you have to consider if it is worth paying so much more.

I would be very suspicous about a Caversham king size mattress at £252, as the seller would be operating at a loss by selling them at that price. Are you sure that the price wasn't £252 for a single?

Ah yes you're right, sorry I could've sworn I checked that it was for kingsize.

Looking more like about £350 from the searching I've done, bit confused about the differences between the Kozeesleep range, i.e. pocketmaster vs caversham, i think i've seen a regency too, not sure how they differ - apart from price obviously

You can easily get superking bedding from ebay for the same price as double bedding on the high street :) Argos sell superking bedding too, if you click on the clearance section they have superking stuff once in a while too.

If you decide super king is too big you could always order a custom size, in between king and super king. It would probably only be around 15% more than a king and you could use super king bedding for it.

It would normally be anything between 10% and 25% more than a superking size.

Really? OK, I thought it would be the same as when I ordered a larger single, i.e. it's seen as a large x rather than a small y. Doesn't sound so good an idea then. :D
  • Hi Tim,
We have just bought a new kingsize bed and after doing some testing of mattresses we definitely like the memory foam option with pocket springs. I quite like the Hypnos Orthocare 1200 (£489) mattress but we would very much like to test a Calypso mattress - the original one I think you mentioned has 1000 springs? How much does this one retail for?
There is also this one I have found on ebay:
CALYPSO POCKET SPRUNG MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS KING SIZE

    • LUXURIOUS AND HAND TUFTED FOUR-WAY STRETCH KNITTED FABRIC
    • 1500 POCKET SPRING UNIT ENCASED WITH 50mm V60 MEMORY FOAM ABOVE AND BELOW.
    • SIDE STITCHED BORDERS WITH WOOLLEN TUFTS
    • HYPO-ALLERGENIC
    • 10 INCH (250mm) DEEP MATTRESS
Is this the same range and what do you think of it? Is it also true these mattresses are made in Yorkshire (we live there)?
We were also looking at the Slumberland memory seal Duluxe (£439). Any opinions very helpful - we are finding this quite a challenge!

It is normal for both small single and standard single to be the same price, and small double and standard double to be the same price. However if you go for special sizes then you usually have to pay for the size above, and then some extra.
