    Hi Tim,
We have just bought a new kingsize bed and after doing some testing of mattresses we definitely like the memory foam option with pocket springs. I quite like the Hypnos Orthocare 1200 (£489) mattress but we would very much like to test a Calypso mattress - the original one I think you mentioned has 1000 springs? How much does this one retail for?
There is also this one I have found on ebay:
CALYPSO POCKET SPRUNG MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS KING SIZE

    • LUXURIOUS AND HAND TUFTED FOUR-WAY STRETCH KNITTED FABRIC
    • 1500 POCKET SPRING UNIT ENCASED WITH 50mm V60 MEMORY FOAM ABOVE AND BELOW.
    • SIDE STITCHED BORDERS WITH WOOLLEN TUFTS
    • HYPO-ALLERGENIC
    • 10 INCH (250mm) DEEP MATTRESS
Is this the same range and what do you think of it? Is it also true these mattresses are made in Yorkshire (we live there)?
We were also looking at the Slumberland memory seal Duluxe (£439). Any opinions very helpful - we are finding this quite a challenge!

The Calypso used to contain 1000 pocket springs, and was 11" deep, and was 2 sided. However it has changed alot (probably in order to cut costs). It appears to now be a non turn mattress, and as for the springs, I think that anyone who is quoting it as having 1500 pocket springs has their specs mixed up with another mattress.

    Hi Tim

Firstly thank you for all you advice on this thread, I have just been reading through most of the posts but cannot see anything similar to my query. I am looking for the best quality single guest bed for our spare room. From the other posts I am leaning towards a memory foam mattress, on a 2 drawer divan. I need one which is firm enough for someone to sit on (small bedroom so not enough room for a seat for guests to sit on to do their hair/read) but very comfortable as well. We would pay up to £300 £350 for the mattress but would obviously pay less if we coujld find one of sufficient quality. Any suggestions of good brands/styles and websites to buy beds?

    Hi Tim

Really hope you can help. Bought a Silent Night memory foam mattress from Makro for our new bed ( base is wood slat's) just after Christmas. Since then I have been suffering from a severe amount of lower back pain primarly in the mornings when I get up once I'm up and about the pain is more or less gone. Have seen a chiropractic lady who advises me after 8 visits that it may be the mattress that is causing my troubles by being too hard, I do personally find it too hard.

So long and short is I need a new mattress please could you give me some advice and pointers of what to look for.

    Thank you

If people are going to sit on the edge of the bed on a regular basis, then tou would probably be better off going for a good quality open coil sprung mattress on a sprung base. These will stand up to being used as a seat far better than pocket sprung or memory foam. If you really do want to go for memory foam, then I'd suggest a good quality open coil sprung/memory foam divan set.

I'm not allowed to give any recommendation on here....sorry:confused:

There is a chance that you could have a faulty mattress (try doing a search in the MSE forums for Silentnight).

Although good quality memory foam mattresses will give excellent support for you back, there are some occasions that they can make a problem worse. This is due to the fact that the memory foam moulds to your body in a way that your old mattress probably never did. This can apply some pressure to the small of your back, and if this is the part of your back that is very tender, then it could cause pain.

What type of mattress was your old one before the memory foam one?

    Hi Tim

    Thanks for your quick response

Old mattress was srung orthopidic bought about 10 years ago. I may and try returning the memory foam one back to Makro I think, as it just isnt help my lower back at all. Have even gone back to sleeping on the old mattress at the moment.
  • Has anyone got a Sensaform Galaxy mattress from Sleepmasters? Any feedback would be gratefully received.

Also does anyone know who makes it and if there is one the same with a different label on?

    thanks:beer:

I believe that it is Sleepmasters own brand. I have seen quite a bit of negative feeback about both Sleepmasters and the Sensaform mattress (much of it on the MSE forums). However don't take my word for it, have a search in the forums.

    Hi

We are thinking of getting a new matress soon.

I get bad back and hips and can suffer quite bad at times.

My dad passed away a few years ago in a hospice but in his room was a guest bad with a memory foam matress. After sitting and lying on this I struggled to get up and walk - it killed me!

We have a double pine bed. Do you need any more info to give any reccomendations?

Thanks in advance for your help
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

So you didn't like the memory foam mattress you tried then?

How firm do you like your mattress?

What type of mattress do you have now?
