Okay, after saying I didn't have time to go to independent retailers due to them being too far away, I decided that for such an important pucrhase, I couldn't buy without trying first!

I went to 4 different retailers in and around the milton keynes area and I've found two that have mattresses I'm very keen on. The first is by Dreamland (link here). The warehouse for this retailer is absolutely huge and they had loads of mattresses to try out. There were actually 3 there that I could have bought, all for under £150 but I think I like the posted one the most. The owner was really friendly too and didn't try to feed me the rubbish that the likes of Dreams etc did. And all the mattresses there are turnable (the ones I tried at least). The only concern I have is that I don't know anything about the manufacturer.

The second I found was a Kozee Sleep one, damask cover but I can't remember the model name. Didn't try it out as much as in the first store but I know about the brand and it was £5 dearer.

Tim/Mark, have you any views on Dreamland as a manufacturer? And in your opinion, would it be better to go for the unknown manufacturer or the Kozee sleep one? I think they were both as comfortable as each other, or maybe the Dreamland one was slightly more comfortable. Also, would love to purchase from the retailer of the Dreamland one as she was so friendly and helpful.

I don't really know much about Dreamland Beds, but they are a small independent company based in Birmingham. I've had a look on their web site, and they don't even say much about the spec of the bed on there. So it may be worth contacting them to find out more about the spec:

As for the Kozeesleep, what did the label look like? The reason I ask is because there are two Kozeesleeps (Kozeesleep and Kozee Sleep), and one is higher quality than the other.

I've just spoken to them on the phone, and they have informed me that it is against company policy to cancel at this stage.

    I'll try your suggestions tomorrow.

If I am stuck with it, would a sprung base make a significant difference to the softness?

    Thank you for your help.

I'd stand your ground if I were you. Try mentioning trading standards, and they will probably back down.

If you go any cheaper than that then the quality is likely to be so low that your guests won't be able to sleep on it.

Make sure it is deep quilted. If the top of the mattress looks flat, and there is no quilting standing proud of the edge beading, then you will probably be able to feel the springs.

If I told you what mattress I have then I would be advertising

As for the one in the link. If you have been reading most of this thread you will have heard a few tales about Relyon not being as reliable as they used to be. This is quite common when large brand are bought out. Relyon are now owned by a large South African multinational company.

It doesn't say on the spec if the mattress is turnable, and it doesn't say how much latex it contains. It does however appear to be at the lower end of the range, so £499 for the double mattress is very over priced.

    Hi Tim,

May i ask what you think of the Hypnos 1200?

It's a plain turnable 1200 pocket sprung mattress. No foam and is firm.
Very similar to this but without the foam.

Currently in HoF for £1100 with 30% off for a superking.
A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

A young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent,
the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.

£1100  That's very over priced, but most Hypnos are.

Again it is part of a large multinational. You can get the same quality for much less from smaller independent manufacturers.
