  • Hello All :A

We bought a memory foam (with no springs) mattress from Sleepmaster less than 2 years ago and find the mattress has gone really soggy. It seems to be a memory foam mattress with alzehemiers, it has lost all its support and just dips where you lay.

I have contacted Sleepmaster but they are unhelpful even though we paid £600 for this mattress.

I wanted to know if anyone else has had dealings with this company or in particular this mattress.

I am in contact with trading standards and they recommend small claims court if Sleepmaster still refute my claims of the mattress not being fit for purpose.

We have now turned our expensive memory foam mattress onto it base to get some support out the foam side as the memory foam is just not comfortable.

Please help if you have any advise for dealing with this company or these products.
  • I have been sleeping on a La Romantica Madrid mattress at a friends house for the last two weeks ago and wanted to give my feedback. I must say that I haven't 'warmed' to it. I sleep a lot on my front and side and was a bit sore after the first couple of nights. I turn a lot during the night and so don't get the nice contoured comfort that you might get sleeping on your back. I expected that a new good-quality memory-foam mattress would mean that I wouldn't turn as much, but the opposite has happened as I struggle to find a comfortable position.

I find it too hot and have woken up frequently because of this. The extremely deep dips in the mattress are also rather disconcerting. However I'm sure the value for money is there and it seems well made with good springs. It's just not for everyone.

I am looking for a new one while our house is redecorated and would be interested in people's experiences of a softer mattress from LaRom, maybe Venice or a Kozeesleep one. Thanks.
  • This is my fear. I'll get a memory foam mattress and simply find it too hot. You can't test that in a shop.

    Who manufactures the mattress?

All goods should have a design life. So even if the actual guarantee is 12 months, the manufacturer should still pay towards the cost of replacement within the design life. This is usually done on a sliding scale.

It is more likely to be the reflex foam that has gone soft rather than the memory foam. However the reflex foam supports the memory foam on top, so appearances my be misleading.

So buy from somewhere that gives a satisfaction guarantee. There are loads of sellers who do.
  • The only problem with that is the time of year I'm looking to buy. Come the summer what seemed perfectly acceptable might become unbearably warm. I doubt anyone's satisfaction guarantee is long enough to cover that.

You shouldn't really have a problem if the mattress contains springs that aren't encapsulated in reflex foam (so that the air can circulate through the spring layer), and the memory foam isn't too deep.
  • It would be nice if that's true but if I can't be sure...

It is true. The only memory foam mattresses that are hot are the ones where the air can't circulate under the memory foam to dissipate the heat, ond/or the memory foam is too deep.
  • I don't doubt that you personally find it fine but then there's people like zharko who find it hot. I've noted that he tried the bed in someone else's house and it may be that the room he is/was in is warmer than he is used too, so it might not be the bed at all. Is that possible zharko?
